Thanks for the ideas! My dd is just NOT a pearl kind of girl. She would never wear them and if I asked her about it she would say it was a stupid idea (not that I think it's stupid but that is what she would say). She is also not the business suit kind of girl and has no need for one now. IF she needs one for interviews later on it would be out of style, might not fit, etc.
She got a new digital camera for Christmas too.
I'm thinking of a couple of things.......
The kindle
Maybe redo her bedroom
Have a professional photographer come to her graduation party and take pics, including some fun "photo booth" type pics
Please keep the ideas coming!S

I wouldn't do the room redecoration, simply because she won't be there that often. She'll be in a dorm for a good portion of 4 years and then moving out on her own.
I love the Kindle idea. I've been drooling over one.McD

Your DD sounds just like my DD1, so I'd suggest the Iphone also. My DD is a Jr and is already hinting for a laptop.

I think redoing her room or accessories for the lap top are the best ideas so far.

I'm loving the redoing her room idea. It would be great for her to have a very grown up kind of room now that she's moving into an adult world. Looking through magazines and decorating books from the library together, brainstorming ideas and finally shopping. What a wonderful way for mother and daughter to bond.

Another idea might be to get her a new wallett....and where the credit card slots are....fill it with gift cards she might need wile in college.... barnes and noble... clothing.... starbucks (remember i live in coffee country) maybe a card to go to the movies... out for a snack... (think jamba juice or cold stone) ... a girl in college is usually somewhat short on money...these small gift cards can make a stressful day way more fun... you can call it the sos college package....

Hmmm, although I like all the above suggestions, personally, I would get her started with retirement by opening an IRA for her. She will get a tax deduction come next year (frugal!) AND she will be off to a great start saving for retirement!
I realize this isn't as immediate or interesting a gift as some of the other suggestions, but think of it this way, you can always work on re-doing her bedroom a little at a time as she is away at school or you can get her something for when she ultimately gets her own place, like a good set of cookware....
JMHO, but I like really practical useful gifts. I am sure she will love whatever you get her!
