Need ideas for graduation gift.......
My dd graduates from high school in May. We'd like to get her a really nice gift, but what? She's always wanted a laptop and we had put off getting one because we had planned on that being her graduation gift. But my parents are wanting to get her that. Now I am out of ideas. I'd like it to be something she can use or keep and maybe pass down.
I thought about jewerly but she's like me and doesn't really wear much. Any ideas???S

If she isn't into jewelry and electronics are so disposable, what about a special trip, maybe just the two of you, to someplace she's always wanted to go?

We don't have time for a trip. She doesn't graduate until Memorial weekend and that is the start of my busy summer at work. I can't get enough time off to take a trip.
I don't think she'd like a spa day. She's VERY much one to not like people messing with her. She wouldn't enjoy things like massage or manicures.
Thanks for the ideas though.....they are great!S

Does she like to take pictures? A nice camera would be something she could take to college with her. My step-sister is a college junior and the girl takes more photographs than you can imagine.
Since she doesn't like jewelry, my original idea of a charm bracelet is out.
An iTouch maybe?
My daughter is graduating next year and one thing she is asking her grandparents for is a smaller flat screen for her dorm room.
Does she like to read? DD reads like crazy so DH and I have decided to get her a Kindle. They make a nice gift for avid readers.DD (19)

I don't really have any ideas for a really cool, or expensive present. My parents got me a laptop for my graduation. My little sister, though, put together something (with the help of my mother) that I will get to keep forever. It's a nice photo album with a fabric covering on the outside. They went through all of the old pictures from the time I was born until the day I graduated, and put quite a few of them in chronological order. The album has a little place to put captions or whatever right next to each picture, and my sister went through and sort of narrarated it. Just an idea for a sentimental type of gift.
Oh, yeah, and as I write this I am using that laptop my parents got for me. I wish I could take a picture and show it to you all; it's pretty hysterical really. The hinges on both sides are snapped and the darn thing no longer closes and the frame around the screen needs to be popped back into place constantly. My BF has had to do some major soldering and rewiring to get the thing to still charge. Oh, and the battery? Worthless. LOL.

She is going to need accessories to go with the laptop - external mouse, 2nd battery, flash drives, possibly software (my laptop only came with a trial version of Microsoft Office), a laptop bag especially if she's going on to college, etc. Just a thought.
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

A really nice dress watch would be nice.
I would also say she will probably need accessories to go with the laptop.

Thanks for all the ideas. I like the kindle idea....might look into that. She never wears a watch and wouldn't want pearls. She's just not a jewelry girl.

I think every gal needs three things in life
1. a nice set of pearls (or a single pearl on a nice chain with matching earrings)
2. a power suit (with pants & skirt)
3. a nice purse
Those three things make it really easy to look classy & professional for an interview, presentation, etc.McD

I would have her write down say 5 items. Something that she really wants. Put it in a hat and draw 1 of them . I would say that is the easest way. That way she will get what she asking for, but not sure which 1.

people or things.

My dd graduated last year and I thought about what to get her for what seemed to be forever too! I wanted something that she could have for a while and would mean something down the road. We decided on a stand of pearls and we choose some beautiful black pearls with matching earrings and braclet. My dd wears the necklace all the time and it thrills me. We also got her a very nice digital camera. She already had a digital camera, but we went the extra mile to get her one that could do just about anything she wanted. We added the accessories, like extra rechargable batteries, and a large memory card so she could take a lot of pics no matter where she was. Good luck with finding the perfect gift for her! Congrats too!
