Sounding Board! Bounce an Idea off FV Friends
Good Morning!
I would like to bounce an Idea off the members here, my reasoning is so many people here have given excellent advice in the past and I would like honest Opinions.
My thoughts are being drawn to the next 10 years (a 10 year plan if you would like to call it.
As some of you know I live on an island in the Caribbean and I also work in Pest Control, I run the office and manage clients and technicans. Plus all the office stuff.... In the last 3 years I have learned so much about the industry but there is way more to learn and I am thinking of getting my licence, in all aspects of the industry to help with my marketability to another pest control company states side or to purchase/ open a small company when I excape the island.
I'm looking at 3 schools, one is a well known University that would be recognizable by the industry as well as clients, the other one is recognizable by the industry only unless the client did the research. and the last is the Island University here (not sure if the certification would work in the U.S.).
So there you have it, would I be wasting my time?
Do you think if I did this hiring companies would be encouraged to hire me?
I am at this point, leaning towards actually having my own company.
Thanks!
P.S. Cant leave because of children and ex-husband, Cant open own company here due to non-compete contract. But I have a boss that is encouraging me to gain knowledge.Katie ~ Mummy of 2

I agree; knowledge is power!
Assuming that money is a factor, you want to go for the best certifcation for your budget. Seeing as you want to return Stateside eventually, get a certifcation that would be recognized in the US. As it stands, you might have to apply for re-certification anyway. So, do your research to find your best option.
Good luck! I think it's wonderful that you want to expand your horizons!

Thanks Ladies! I am also trying to make my best leap back into the state side work force which has a higher caliber of workers and to make up for lost time while living here.

I too would go back to school. If you can afford it, it wouldn't hurt.

Definately go for the education. Not everyone finds what they want to do with the rest of their life. It sounds as if you have. Also your sounds like he is behind you.

I agree. Get the education, and get it at the best school you can afford with the widest recognition. If you work for someone else, it will definitely be in your favor, and if you set up your own business, you will have extra knowledge to build on.
I don't know what the curriculum would be, but don't overlook business/management/accounting courses if you don't have this in your background. If you set up your own business they will be invaluable.Donna

DEFINITELY go for the knowledge!
Will they help pay for it? Even part of it? That would be even better!
Good luck........
