Gov just trying to make our choices healthier.
Having been following the Tax Soda thread, I just had to share this one.

Chefs Call Proposed New York Salt Ban 'Absurd'
MYFOXNY.COM - Some New York City chefs and restaurant owners are taking aim at a bill introduced in the New York Legislature that, if passed, would ban the use of salt in restaurant cooking.
"No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises," the bill, A. 10129 , states in part.
The legislation, which Assemblyman Felix Ortiz , D-Brooklyn, introduced on March 5, would fine restaurants $1,000 for each violation. The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

While I truly appreciate that the gov't is trying to make us more healthier in NY, perhaps they could be a little more attentive to other things than this. Seriously.
You want people to be healthier. Get them moving. Get them doing things. NYC, I've found, is the least desirable place to work out. At least when I lived in Toronto area there was always this sense of movement (not by public transit or cars) of people. We loved to walk everywhere.

How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Another moronic step by the government to control behavior.

Won't pass. I'm guessing some NY politician wants a little publicity so they proposed something outrageous.

I can't see how it would work. You need a little salt to make some recipes work. Don't you?

Actually, yes. IIRC, a lot of baking recipes require salt. In fact, it may be more beneficial to have it. (see here: Cooking with Salt and Salt Measures) I think, however, adding additional salt beyond what a recipe needs is what they are aiming at but missing by the proverbial country mile.

It hasn't been the Land of the Free in hundreds of years...
on a side note, the salt ban would work for extra added salt. I can't see banning salt all together. It's necessary for some, if not all, recipes. It comes in a lot of mixed seasonings. It would put businesses like McCormick out of business.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

I really don't want the government ruling my personal health. It's my body so they can just go jump in a lake. I just don't think anyone should tell us what to do with our bodies at all.

I say let them pass it and force all the legislators to eat all their meals at restaurants - and put salt detectors at the doors so they can't bring in their own. It would be repealed in three days, tops!
It sounds to me like someone trying for a little notoriety, as someone said. Unfortunately, what is says to me is not "this is a concerned legislator" but this is a clueless goober who needs to be freed up at the next election to find a more rewarding line of work.
As I said in some other post, there are too many people today telling what we can and cannot do. I'm a grown up, I know that choices have consequences, and I am willing to accept the consequents of my choices.Donna
