Yeah, we JUST paid off DS-14 braces!
It was a little over $5,000! YIKES! I KNOW! Back when I had braces it was only $2,000! We decided to make payments instead of paying in a lump sum and getting the cash discount, because we weren't sure of the orthodontist's track record. He turned out to be really great.

Yup! We just finished paying of DC#2 braces the first of the year. Now we are on to our final ortho savings!! DC#3 will need braces sometime next year, but we are saving now. For us it is a medical expense, not cosmetic. It slowed down our debt payment and will slow down our FFEF, but it is a need not a want.
Don't forget to use your FSA or something similar. I will help cut the costs

My oldest who had his braces in 97 cost us alot because he ended up needing surgery to fix his upper jaw...$23,000....lucky I had good insurance then and it was a needed fix...
My youngest is in braces now and it is going to cost us around $3,000 after my insurance. We pay by the month because we didn't have the whole amount right away.
OH well he will have a beautiful smile with it is done...

Braces for DD were $5000 and that was 10 years ago!! The price we pay to live in paradise

I am going in for a braces consult next Tuesday for myself. No clue how I will pay for it but have been told get them now or regret it later and spend $7,000 easily on implants for the teeth the dentist is concerned about. Not to mention the other costs we discussed for bite-related problems.

*sigh*
I'll post the figure when I get it. You can scream with me, it'll be fun.LDR

2 kids - $11,000
Paid for it up front instead of having the orthodontist finance them.
Our dental insurance covers 100% for two cleanings a year with no deductible, 100% of all other dental work after a $50 deductible, but nothing towards orthodontic treatments.DD (19)

We had to plan ahead. My dh signed up for expanded dental insurance. But we had to be on it for one year before any orthodontics were covered. The insurance pd. $1200 , my mother paid $1000.
