What do you call it when you go out with someone and each pays their own bill? - Greebo

(from another Dutchie) That's either sam-sam or nameless, because it's assumed everyone will pay for him/herself. It's mentioned specifically if someone is treating or if the bill is split evenly amongst the guests.

BTW: a party where everyone brings something to eat and drink is called an 'American Party'!

I noticed up in the province of Quebec, Canada they automatically split your bill up by party or person w/o asking. But I guess it could depend on the type of establishment. It was weird to see that when I was trying to treat a few friends. Not sure if its a cultural thing or an European influenced thing? In most places, you need to ask for a separate check/bill before you place your order.

You were only about 40 miles from me. I am in Manheim. There are a lot of independent restaurants out there, you just have to know where to look. They are scattered and sometimes if you don't know they are there you wouldn't see them.

I was reading your post to my DH and he stated - "She wasn't in Chicagoland!!" Don't get me wrong, I love visiting Chicago, but the people have never been called "friendly". Outside of the city, downstate you have some of the best people and towns ever! Yes it depends on the region and state in which you are visiting!
