Thumbs up Remember my little patient, Elizabeth?

Those of you who've been here a while, know about my little patient, Elizabeth. Just thought I'd update you all.
She had successful emergency open heart surgery just before Christmas. In February, she was finally weaned of the ventilator during the day.
Well, as of Wednesday, she is off it at night, too!!! I just disassembled the whole thing, unplugged it and turned it towards the wall until it can go back to the vendor. She completely off oxygen, too, and the number of medications she takes is down by 75%.
Her parents can now pick her up and take her places WITHOUT havig to pack up a vent, humidifier, monitor, oxygen, suction machine and feeding pump.
She's almost ready to start walking, and on her 2nd birthday, we're taking her to an Indianapolis Indians baseball game!!
God is good, as Elizabeth needs nursing care less and less, I've been brought into a new case where I feel my expertise is sorely needed, and wanted.
Anyway, I just thought you would want to know!!!

Now that brought me an instant smile! Isn't it amazing the way little ones pull through things! I'm happy for her, happy for her mom and dad, and happy for you! You just gotta be on cloud nine right now . No doubt to me you played a BIG role in her recovery. There are nurses, and than there are nurses! I hope you'll be able to always stay in touch with her. The day will come when she'll love hearing the story about her dear, sweet, Nurse Mary Carney!!

Wonderful news, from a wonderful lady! (yes you, mary)

I was looking for just the right gift to celebrate. She has more toys than you could imagine - and they currently live in a tiny apartment so that's out. Clothes - her grandparents have gone overboard there as well. I found a Mercer Meyer storybook entitled 'Just Go to Bed' - and I customized it by adding a page noting that the little critter goes to bed WITHOUT a vent, just like Elizabeth!!
She loves my glasses (they're cheap, non-prescription readers from WalMart) and is always taking them and wearing them around the house, so I'm wrapping them up and giving them to her for her birthday!

Oh Mary, that is wonderful news. She is definately a little fighter and she has a terrific nurse taking care of her. I'm sure her family is very grateful to have you in her life. I will continue to keep her and her family in my prayers.
