Inexpensive Skin Care ideas
Good Afternoon to the Frugal Village,
I have been thinking of this for quite sometime now. My question is for you what are some inexpensive ideas I can use to take care of my skin? For cleansing, toner and Mositurizer? How do you determine what type of skin do you have?
Initially I thought I could just go with Cliniqe and do the skin care programs they have but I think $179 every six months is expensive don't you?
Thank you,
Precious

Someone months back had a thread about using olive oil and I got hooked on the oil and sugar facial scrub. 2 tsps of olive oil, 1 tsp of sugar and put it on warm wet skin as a facial scrub. I wash it off, apply a spritz of witch hazel toner and a very light layer of plain olive oil and my skin feels wonderful the next day. Its a little shiny at first.
I'm 5 months pregnant and using mineral oil that I added rosemary oil to for scent on my belly to prevent stretch marks. So far, so good.
I have dry oily thick skin.
I've been doing this about 6 or 8 months now and love it. I think I've spent 14 dollars total.

The best thing you can do is drink several glasses of plain clean water daily. You do not need "8 glasses", just enough that your urine runs clear or very pale yellow.
Eat enough vegetable oils in your diet -- nuts, avocado, olives and olive oil, etc -- to naturally moisturize you skin.
Use a mild cleanser like Noxema, and a soft cloth. Do not 'scrub' your face until it is red, this just irritates the skin.Use it up, Wear it out,

I use clinique bar soap but I cut off a small piece of the bar and put it in my soap dish. When that piece is used up I cut another. This makes the soap last longer. 1 bar lasts me about 6 months (not bad for $8). I use St. Ives apricot scrub if I need to exfoliate and plain witch hazel for toner.

I use St Ives Apricot Facial Foaming Wash (the scrubs irritated my pores too much), then a pore tightening toner and a pore tightening moisturizer. If I don't use St Ives, I use Garnier. Both seem to work better for me than other items.
I was using Neutrogena toner for a while, which seemed to do really well.
I get extremely oily on my forehead, nose and chin. I also break out on my neck and shoulders/upper back. Therefore, I also use a clarifying body wash because if I don't, I break out super bad.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

mix baking soda and cetaphil and wash your face once a week. great exfolliater!
i use cetaphil daily w/ minimal water. helps w/ dryness
clinique toner if i have it or witch hazel if not
purpose or cetaphil (whichever is on sale or has xtra bucks at cvs) - they both have spf in them. so no block is needed!
my splurge is smashbox primer which is about $40 or so and i buy 3x per year as i do not wear it daily.
i also use a day eye cream (garnier) as there are no oil glands under your eyes and they tend to look a bit...aged some days.lol
the bkng soda and cetaphil...i swear by it! works wonders!
aquaphor on lips daily also and at night

I normally just wash my face with the bath soap (dial) while in the shower. Most of the time I just use water.
If I'm feeling dry, I put on lotion Cetaphil ( not the cheapest but I'm not allergic to it so that is what I buy. I don't have to use much of it so it lasts)
If I want a scrub I make a scrub of sugar and olive oil. I use this on my feet
oatmeal for bath and sometimes as a facial
honey if I need to dry out the face. Put it on let it dry a bit wash of with water."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

Well, the most important thing I would suggest is to always wear a moisturizer, whether you're oily or dry, find one that suits you and apply it both morning and night.
I keep my routine simple, I'm not a very high-maitenance type of gal~cool water wash with a washcloth and a moisturizer of some sort, I will use Cetaphil, if I have it.
As for my moisturizer, right now, I'm finishing up an old bottle of Mary Kay's TimeWise that I found in the back of my closet.
But organic, unrefined coconut oil works well for me too.
I've also used Trader Joe's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" moisturizing cream.
Also Aldi's carries a good line of skin care that I've never had any problems with and it's *VERY* budget friendly.Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...

I have been using the CVS brand of cetaphil for cleansing and moisturizer. I have sensitive skin and this really helps. I also use witch hazel that I add tea tree oil drops to. Baking soda mixed with water to make a paste also works well as an exfoilator.

With CVS's EBs, I get my skin care products free or close to it. But here's something my mom taught me, and it really works nice.
Cover your face with a thin layer of olive oil. Then take a washcloth, run it under hot water and squeeze it out. Cover your face with the washcloth, and leave on till it gets cool. Repeat 3-4 times. Rinse face about 7-8 times, making the last rinse cool water. Now apply your moisturizer. You'll wake up with new softness. Nobody could ever guess my mom's age, even when she turned 80. Believe me, there's something to be said about the value olive oil has to skin and hair!
