Our Bathroom Titles Are Giving Up Their Ghost...
~ This morning while in the shower rinsing the shampoo out of my hair I heard a wet smack sound down around my feet. I looked down to discover that one of the tiles had fallen off the wall! I then looked at the wall and a bunch of them are starting to pop out on the edges. We knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but we were really hoping the wall would hang on till DH got back to his real job. *sigh* Not sure what we are going to do about this.

I'm sorry, I should have been clearer when posting this. I was looking for some advice on this problem. Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm looking for a frugal solution.

That depends on what you were planning on doing when husband gets better job back.My brothers house has tiles in the shower and since they liked the ones that were there they took them all off and put them back.

Well, the bathroom is the original bathroom from when the house was built in 1950. It was in bad shape when we bought this house. The original plan was to put in a really economical bathroom until the boys moved out and then expand the bathroom into DS2's room.
To replace the tile would be a never ending job. I have to be extremely careful when I clean not to press on the tile. They are lose and this is the start of a shower of tile falling from the wall. The entire wall would need to be removed and retiled. The tile wraps around all four walls of the bathroom. Redoing the tile would be a lot of work for a bathroom that must be gutted, and believe me it's got to be gutted. The original home owners did not care for the property.~~~

For now I would just take all the tiles off in the shower and replace them with that plastic wall stuff that is for showers. It can't cost much because my daughter used it in hers.Just have to calk the seams good so water won't get to the walls. I think they just screwed it to the walls and caulked all the screws.

Maybe should have explained better. It comes in sheets like paneling but is thin plastic.I'm not sure but it probaly comes with different designs and colors. They just got plain white because I'm sure it's cheaper. They got it at Lowe's.

I saw a video that shows how to replace individual wall tiles:
How to Replace a Wall Tile | Video | Tile | This Old House
Maybe it could give you some ideas so that you could just replace indivdual tiles. Good luck!

I had thought of just replacing the tiles too, but they are popping out all over. It's a losing battle. They've got to go.

I'm liking the plastic though, maybe we can find a tub surround on the cheap?~~~
