    Default Arg!!!!! Taxes!!!! Vent

    I am so frustrated.

I decided to be up-to date and file my taxes electronically. I never had before and we had additional medical deductions because of my daughters juvenile diabetes.

    So I forked out $39.00....

    What a waste of money!

I spent a better part of a day on it and even though it found some deductions I would not have (so I made a few extra dollars), it seems to have an error in the program and keeps putting on an extra deduction...AND I can't find the answers to how it gets some of it's numbers... and trying to get through on the phone is impossible and and and...
So it isn't filed yet and I am ready to go back to the good old paper return..

I am ready to cry, scream and stamp my feet ( and have done so already )..

Wish I had my $39.00 back..

Have you sorted this out yet?
If not, can you give specifics about what deduction it is putting on incorrectly, and what numbers you think are wrong? I'll see if I can help figure out what is happening.

If you need any help, please let me know the specifics...like what extra deduction you are referring to and what other figures you are questioning. I'll help as best as I can....I just finished my first season as a tax associate.

Oh I finally figured it out... way into the wee hours of the morning. Thanks for the offer though, but being Canadian it probably wouldn't have helped.
The problem I was having had to do with the fact that my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last year which means she is now considered disabled. So there were deductions which were new.
So the program would just pop in the correct amounts but I had no way of back tracking and finding out why there was a deduction there or how they got the amount they arrived at. So I felt uncomfortable putting my signature on it.
After MANY hours I was able to figure it out by cross referencing with a paper based manual... very slow.

But the program did find me an additional $500 credit I was unaware of so it made it worth the $39.
    Thanks for asking...

When I posted I was just tired, frustrated and cranky...LOL

I am glad you figured it out! I have been using TurboTax for years and love it mostly for the fact that it asks you questions and puts the correct information/amount in the correct box. I find it SO much easier than doing it by hand. And as you stated, it generally finds extra deductions I hadn't thought about.

Hollyhill, next year just buy the 19.99 version, it has all the forms in it and can be used for anyone despite what the box says. Just don't do the wizard part, go through your receipts and enter them each into the receipt tab, and enter your personal and dependent information. It will fill in everything else.

I thought the disability amount was probably what was tripping you up. I had that for my daughter last year and it was much more than I expected. I was afraid to send it in as well.

I tried a similiar software this year and hated it. I called and demanded a refund. They missed deductions adn they also claimed that the IRS did not recognize my employer's EIN number. Whcih is funny because it recognized my husband's employers's EIN number---THEY ARE THE SAME NUMBER! We are both employed by the same city! (And no it wasn't a typo!)

    Frustratign.
