Not Thinking It Through Department
I never cease to be amazed at bad planning, but if they gave Nobel prizes for it, today's episode would have been in the running.
I was out shopping, finally got a light, and turned out of the Walmart parking lot into the farthest lane, to be on the inner lane of double left turn lanes a few blocks ahead. That's a point of no return car placement on this street. Suddenly I saw what was happening up ahead --
They were moving - are you ready? a HOUSE through one of the biggest and busiest intersections in the city a little after 3:00 -- school traffic (two very close) on top of the regular traffic which is already bad enough there (major shopping, a hospital on the corner, a university a few blocks farther on). You can imagine how far it was backed up, blocks and blocks as it snarled up everything, creeping along, and so wide it was quite alarming coming at us. It cleared us, but only by overhanging the curb on the far side of the street by two of three feet.
Surely someone might have suggested this was not the best time to haul buildings around on major thoroughfares. Why do "they" allow this? Surely at least the police escort must have thought it was a bad idea. I hope.

Maybe they started out at a time when the traffic in town would have been light, but ran behind schedule? It can't be easy moving a house anywhere. And where would you be able to just pull over to let traffic pass once you're in town? Just guessing!
I bet nobody was happy- including the people moving it.

Well, that's a point. I guess it would be a little hard to park it and wait.

Can't you just picture the guy in the trip permit office snickering, and heading out to lunch... on the other side of town...
