Introduce yourself... Hello frugal village
How did you hear about frugal village? I found a thread called "Words you love" through Google while looking up discombobulate. I quite liked the thread. Blackadder's "pericombobulation" is a prettier word though.
What interests you here? The idea that a board this size can center itself on the notion of frugality. Western economies survive only because pointless excessive consumption is the social norm.
What will you contribute? Good grammar combined with tips on practical communism in the post-Soviet era. Or is that still a bogeyword?
Do you know any other members here? No, narry a one to the best of my knowledge.
How many kids? Ages? Four or so recently graduated and scattered themselves around the country. One's even married.
Tell us about yourself. I have a few trade skills I picked up over the years like programming. I rewired and re-plumbed a house though nobody ever let me do it a second time and I suspect the law would intervene if I tried it again.
Do you own any pets? No. I disapprove of the notion of pets. Wildlife and pets don't coexist. The planet's already burdened with too many humans, adding pets too is just an insult.
Occupation? I work from home on long-term potentially profitable stuff. I have hopes that I might end up with a few completed tasks eventually.
"Hobby" is a horrible concept. It comes, I think, from a contraction of hobbyhorse in the sense Lawrence Sterne used it:There is no disputing against Hobby-Horses; and for my part, I seldom do; nor could I with any sort of grace, had I been an enemy to them at the bottom; for happening, at certain intervals and changes of the moon, to be both fidler and painter, according as the fly stings: Be it known to you, that I keep a couple of pads myself, upon which, in their turns, (nor do I care who knows it) I frequently ride out and take the air; though sometimes, to my shame be it spoken, I take somewhat longer journies than what a wise man would think altogether right. But the truth is, I am not a wise manSo, no, I'm very wary of hobbies. I mentioned once at a job interview that some of my time went into training for lay ministry and was asked whether, beside religion, I had any other hobbies. The word's rankled with me ever since.

Thank you all, it's kind of you to say hello. I'm wondering what threads I might join that I could usefully contribute to. I'll find something eventually.

:welcometofv: I think discombobulate is more "fun" to say, lol.
I love shelter pets, nice to give homes to those someone didn't take care of properly in the first place.

Aloha and welcome from Hawaii!!
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

You have one of the most interesting introductions I've ever read at the Village. Perchance, were you an educator in a former life?
Anyway, hi and welcome!
