Hey that's great
You can do this! I'm getting ready to start college myself!
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Ok so I am back from my meeting. I want to do this SOOOO BAD!!!! Since my DH makes too much I can't get any grants so it would have to be done with loans and cash. The total cost of the program is $19,835.00. I would need to come out of pocket with $2917.00 which they would break down into pymts yada yada. I'm looking at $259.28 a mo if I go to school days or $155.00 a mo if I go nights. So now to sit down with DH and see what we can do. Its more than I had thought but it would so be worth it if we can pull this off! If so I can start May 18th...wow!

I hope it works out for you. It's money up front, but potential income for a long time to come. I also think it's important.
This may be morbid to inflict at a moment of excitement, but a story from my childhood, which is now many, many years ago, and something I have never forgotten. When I was around 9 or 10 (edited to add, dang - that's half a century ago!), my mother wanted to go to work. My father was adamantly against it. Old school. "My wife doesn't have to work." She pointed out that if, God forbid, anything should happen to him, she would have to support the family and needed the skills to allow her to do so. He agreed with the sense of that, and she did, finding a job in medical records in a hospital.
I think all women should have all the education and skills possible in their situations. We never know what the future will bring for good or ill. Hope for sunny skies always, but know where your umbrella is.
I think you are making a very smart decision to try to do this. And I'm sure you would enjoy it too.Donna

You go girl!
That is one of the best beauty schools. At least that is what I hear. We have funky old beauty school in my town. Go for it! Even if you never set foot in a salon, you can use your skills on relatives, friends and to barter with and also not to mention your own immediate family.

These aren't usual times, apply for grants and scholarships anyway. Check with local unemployment office for training funds. Many Masonic Lodges have scholarships for anyone, not related to membership. Get creative and make it happen.
Good luck!

Good luck! Beauty school is a blast. It was $4000 when I went in 1988! Minus the $1000 scholarship I gotl. Wow has it gone up. Does the school offer any scholarships? Also check scholarships on line. I know they are out there for adult students because a friend just got one for $1500. A friends dd is going to an Aveda school 45K ouch!
Do you work now? If not could you work nights etc and save up cash so you need less loans and start at a later date?
Cosmetology is a terrific career and very rewarding but to be very honest you sure are not floating in the dough the first few years while building a good client base. It is a ok after you have clients though and as always a blast! I don't say this to be a downer but because years back I managed a larger chain salon and so many of the girls fresh out of school were so surprised they didn't just instantly have clients and struggled. Since most salons pay based on the clients you do if your not busy( which is normal at first) you get minimum wage .
I sure hope that didn't come out as discouraging because it was no meant to but as a realistic look at what happens in the biz $ wise the 1st few years.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000
