Introduce yourself... hi everyone!
How did you hear about frugal village?
I did a web search on frugality about a month ago and bookmarked a few pages. Somehow, I kept returning to this forum every night since and I really enjoy it here. So I registered a few days ago and now I am posting for the first time!
What interests you here?
I think this is a great place to learn frugal ideas and frugal strategies. Some of you are true masters of frugality! So I’m here for the knowledge, but I also really like the way you treat each other and the encouraging attitude of everyone.
What will you contribute?
I’m not so strong on the knowledge, so I’ll try to give encouragement!
Do you know any other members here?
Not yet.
How many kids? Pets?
No kids, no pets (though I love animals), no husband as of yet. Might start with a pet. ;-)
Tell us about yourself
I live in Germany, which explains my weird english. I’ve been unemployed for nearly 10 month, but to my great happiness, I finally found work in Frankfurt. My new job starts on the 1st of June and I am in the middle of moving there, as I live about 250 km north of Frankfurt at the moment.
I’ve always been kind of half-way frugal (there probably is no such thing). Examples: I’ve always written down my expenses, but I didn’t budget and didn’t make a pricebook. I’m good at meal planning but would like to be much better.
I want to improve my frugal ways. My unemployment taught me that the future might not always be secure, and there will be good times, but also hard times, economically speaking. Also, I would like to be more conscious about spending, because in the past, I’ve often felt that I didn’t use my money in the best way, and that I didn’t get the best value in return.
At the moment, I have comparatively little debt, but also practically no savings. Since April 17th, I’ve got a spread sheet which I use to write down my expenses in more detail than before (as a basis for the budget), and I’ve also started a price book. My aims are:
- pay off debt
- start emergency fund
- build up savings
- keep up the pricebook, make budget
- sensible stockpiling
- get better at meal plannings, learn new recipes
- bake my own bread
- learn how to sew
Small steps at a time.

There's quite a lot of us.
This is quite a cosmopolitan forum.
There are people here from Canada, Australia, UK and Ireland and a few more from Germany and Holland and I'm sure a few more countries too but I can't think of them at the moment, so my apologies if I've forgotten anyone and their country.
Everyone is very friendly and supportive and I'm sure you'll love it here.*Avril*
