I thought this odd.... leaving Walmart
As I am leaving Super Walmart today, at the main exit, I see a man standing with a sign... It say's, "I'm Broke... Please Help"
A) In our town, it is not a common site....
B) People leaving Walmart, are either shopping there cause they have to.... or like to save every penny they can and hold onto the rest (I know there are lots of feelings about Walmart on this forum and some wouldn't shop there to save there life)... but in this plaza the other main store is a Dollar Store..........
But the most ironic thing to me was; Directly across the street is a shopping plaza that has Best Buy, Uno's, and an upscale furniture store...
I was perplexed, as to why he chose this side?

There would be a lot more traffic coming out of a Walmart than an upscale furniture store. I know plenty of people that shop at Walmart who are neither low income nor thrifty, it just happens to be a store that sells everything. Same with the dollar store.

Good points! Things I never considered!

Also, maybe he thinks that the Walmart customers might be closer to his apparent situation, thus more willing to give something. A whole day collecting quarters is better than watching people go by with an extra $10 that they don't give you.

Low income people are more likely to give a little than those who have it really.
Those that don't have anything will come more likely paying there bills than those who do..even if they have to pay a little at a time.

When you're making a big purchase, what do you usually pay with? A credit card! On the other hand, when you're making smaller purchases, you're more likely to pay with that $20 in your pocket. Which means the Walmart and Dollar Store shoppers are more likely to have spare change.
I never give them money. I will give them food or buy them a coffee, but I never ever give them money. I've worked with several drug addicts and homeless men volunteering and know better. If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

In our area there are people who just do this for a living. My sister has given her husband's business card to several of them with an offer of a potential job, but none have ever contacted him. The shame of it is that it gives the people who are "legitimate" a more difficult time because of the bias that is built up against them.

Sometimes, the upscale stores have a policy against soliciting as well.

If I saw him, I would give. There but for the grace of God, go I.
If he spends it on booze or drugs, it's his conscience, his soul he has to worry about. It's MY behavior that 'I' have to worry about.

Brat I really don't agree with that at all. I think your personality and beliefs have you give not your income. Same with paying bills
We have a Walmart about 30 min away. They sit right as you come ad go out of the parking lot. I have a friend that works in the plaza the Walmart is in. We were taking about the guys that sit there. She says they use the picnic table behind her store all the time. She also said "poor my @ss" as they are back there texting on cell phones , talking about the suckers etc. She said to really look at the clothes so I did. One guys outfit was all FUBU and the other had on a Tommy coat, Vans shoes etc.
So if I feel like giving I drop off a bag of Mc D's etc after my friend interaction with these guys. I donate clothing, $ and time to the mission because I know it is going for people who need it not some lazy punks. That area also had day labor jobs for 7.25 -8 an hour so there is work if one will go.
When in Vegas I gave left and right because I felt so bad. A blackjack dealer set me straight that many of the people did it as a job and made more $ than we did working!
In Chicago I saw what I truly believe were homeless and felt very happy to share with them unlike these punks at Walmart.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

We have several of these people who hang out near shopping centers. The guy near Walmart changes his sign every few days. One day, he's *Disabled Veteran* then a few days later he's *Unemployed dad of 5*.....then *Stranded, need gas money* and people still give him money!

Yup, I no longer give them money. I will give them food or a drink depending on how much I have. Also, the person may have been told they could not stand on the side with the more expensive stores. Also, the side he was on was the easiest to get to.
