Question Take a penny - leave a penny Do they still have these where you live?

Remember the change jar ("take a penny leave a penny") help yourself if needed dishes at registrars? Do they still have these were you live?

Yep but sometimes they call them 'tip' jars.

I did that - take a penny, leave a penny' thing at Starbucks...the server got miffed at me big time! What she failed to see and the person in line behind me vouched for me thank goodness was that I had tossed a quarter in to take 3 pennies back to pay for my coffee with exact change. I fail to see how someone doing their job should receive a tip. Its not exceptionally skill requiring to press the downward button to extract my coffee from the urn. Sheesh!

I'm not familiar with tip jars. The take a penny leave a penny dishes we have here and that I remember from my youth are just that dishes of change that you can help yourself too. nothing required

Edited to move the rest of this post over to the spin of thread Libby started about tip jars as the rest of it was a question about tip jars.

So far only Russ and I have the communal money dish at the registar to get money from (Take if you need leave if you can) Excluding making change in the tip jar.

Apparently it is or is becoming a thing of the past.

I see them at the counter of the gas station. Since I usually pay at the pump with a credit card and NEVER buy single sodas or candy, I never have a need for them. The only reason I see them on occasion is when the receipt doesn't print at the pump and I have to go inside to get one.

OH and I forgot; my independent motorcycle shop has one. But again, I never pay with cash so I have no need for it.

I haven't noticed the penny jars at all. I pay with debit or credit so, no cash here.

This is WV, so we still have a fair number of smaller stores, mostly gas stations, that have a Take a Penny cup. However, these are COMPLETELY different from tip jars, and making change in a tip jar is seen as a pretty rude faux pas, lol.

the gas station at the corner has one, but it's not in plain sight, it's on the register tray...

Tip jars on the other hand... are everywhere!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

We have the penny ones in gas stations, and I have seen them at several dollar stores. If I have to use a penny, I take one, but the next time, I am in a store that has one, I usually add a few if I have them, to make up for the times I need one.
I try to keep a few in my change purse so to give correct change. I don't like getting a lot of change back, because I then have to roll it. I have never used one of those change machines that counts them for you and charges a percentage, and I don't intend to start now.
