    Default Wow, really? How informative.....

This has got to be the WORST article I've seen on MSN in quite some time: Decoding the supermarket circular- Smart Spending - MSN Money

"If you've got a coupon for an item in a circular, go ahead and try it. Waffles are on sale for half off. You have an additional 50-cent coupon. It's worth a shot, right?"

Go ahead and TRY it? What does that even mean? Last time I checked....if you have a coupon, you can use it if it's for the right product...regardless if it's already on sale. That's the best time to use the d$%@ coupon!!!

"Use your judgment. When you finally arrive at that bin of 1-cent-a-pound chicken breast, take a good, long look at the quality of the meat. Is it gray? Does it stink? Is it housing a maggot colony? There's a reason it's on sale."

Oh this is great advice. Don't buy spoiled food. Check!

Ok, those were my two favorites. I'll let you all read the rest of it if you dare.

Last time i checked good supermarkets don't sell bad food via the HEALTH DEPT. Granted once in awhile some dairy slips buy the date but really.

Thanks for posting. This is even better than the article recently. It stated that a kid whose FAT, at some point, will be picked on, even if they don't do anything to antagonize. Has thing person ever BEEN to junior high/middle school. DUH. Did I pay for the funds for this research?? I want my nickel back.
I left a comment. I think it was supposed to be funny but what a nit. Gotta say i felt made fun of.

Buy it cause its on sale... got it!

Greebo: Honey, I bought $8,000 worth of lumber for only $4,000 - I saved us $4,000! YAY!

    Ceashels: "Did we NEED lumber?"

    Greebo: "Uh...."

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

It comes naturally as breathing to those that either a. grew up in a family that used these methods and actually paid attention to it. or b. have learned how to do it.

Not everyone knows how to shop frugally or even know about the marketing tricks that supermarkets employ.

Don't get me wrong, a couple of tips make plenty of sense, and you're right; it may not be as obvious to some.

What really got me about the article was that one of the tips included not buying food that is already spoiled. I don't care what family you grew up in, if someone can't figure that out on their own then they're in real trouble lol.

That and the coupon part. What she said about "trying" to use a coupon on a sale item was just funny. It would have been much more helpful to people who don't know how to use coupons to say something along the lines of: "If an item is on sale and you have a coupon, use it!!" But she didn't...It was just odd I guess.

I took the part about trying it to mean Try that brand of waffles not try to see if the coupon works with the sale item.

That's what I thought, too, but looking at it again it does sound more like she's saying the coupon might not work. "It's worth a shot" doesn't sound like something you'd say about trying frozen waffles.
