I'm almost certain that we have that here in the US, too. Or at least they tried to.

I agree with the gentleman who said if you go and buy stuff, it's your responsibility to check it. Generally speaking, I think people are becoming to complacent and to willing to just let the government decide what is best for them. That's kind of a scary thought.

Just a quick reminder though, when posting a link, it's helpful to jumpstart the conversation, especially to those people who are doing a quick jump in the village, to give a brief heads up about the basis of the article, as well as your commentary on it. It helps keeps the thread relevant and useful too, when/if the link becomes a dead link. A more in-depth look at the link rule is here: new link rule

    Caveat emptor!

When did it become *legal* to shirk all personal responsibility?

And as a Canadian, can I just say that Health Canada can...(note: the rest of this statement will not be delivered since it may harm some readers, and the writer would not want to be held legally responsible!)

It has always been illegal to sell recalled and dangerous goods at yard sales. Sellers are responsible for ensuring that everything they sell meets current safety standards. Based on the reaction of the people in the article, it would appear that a large percentage of the population is not aware of their legal responsibilities. Sounds like Health Canada is just trying to educate the public on the existing laws, this isn't something new.
