I live in an eastern suburb of Toronto in Canada, near Lake Ontario and lots of park land.

    Default Planning versus PANIC!

So I am in the home stretch of my contract right now, and I am trying not to panic. It ends at the end of September (I know that's months away, but I like to panic early, so that I get really motivated!), so I am starting to seriously look for other work. It would be great to get something permanent with benefits, but I am not closing any doors.

There are a couple of things I am currently applying for, and hopefully more will pop up.

I have been putting a little money into my BEF, but I think I need less snowball and more EF in my budget right now. If I don't find something right away, I will get unemployment insurance, and that will cover my basic bills and minimum debt payments, but there is a waiting period, so I need to cover the interim.

I am also building up my stockpile so that I can live off the pantry if necessary.

Is there anything I am missing?
    BEF: $$120/$1000

Sounds like you have a plan. You may want to check all expenses and see where you might be able to cut back. Ex: lower cable service, using cell phone only, walking to stores. Having a well stocked pantry can really be a life saver.

I think it's good to start planning early. I've heard it take 21 days to make a habit, so you have time to make some habits and stick with them by then.
