Learning to be frugal
Hello everyone. I wanted to come in and introduce myself, as I just signed up with Frugal Village today. I am a stay at home mom/full time student. I have been married for 8 years and we have two children, 8 and 6. I have been interested in money saving tips for a while, but I seem to fall off the bandwagon really easy. I did do the coupon game a couple of years ago, but it seemed silly to spend money on a program that helps me save money. I must admit that I did see savings, but I spent more on gas driving from store to store and buying things that I really didn't need.
I recently lost my job in November so I am trying to work with only having one income again, which has been very tough. I have looked through a lot of the website and trying to soak it all in.
I am open-minded to any suggestions, post, or ideas you would like to share to get me in the frugal mind set!
I look forward to being frugalized!

Welcome. I personally like the coupon mom website. Makes couponing really easy. And it is free.

take what you like and leave the rest. couponing doesn't work for me either!
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Welcome from Chicago!
Being on a forum like this is an excellent way to stay accountable for your goals. I've picked up sooooo much advice, encouragement, and great ideas here and hope it does the same for you, too!
I think the best lesson I got here was about budgeting, on purpose. I've ended up using Mint.com, but I don't know that the method matters. Writing down a budget that makes sense and living on it is the hardest skill - but all things become possible once you pull it off.- Elizabeth
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start,
anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

Welcome
There are a couple books you could try reading: The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn and Miserly Moms by Jonni McCoy. I found them both very helpful.
