Default Dd Made it to Canada...Very Excited!

Well, Dd set out on her big adventure early this morning, and is now safely at her hotel.I am so proud of her Although my father is a pilot, I have never had the nerve to fly by myself.....yeah, I'm a big chicken.lol.
After we got her settled at the airport and were on the way home, I felt a tremendous "burden" lift off of my shoulders -everything is okay and I'm totally at peace. Now that I've been through the 'letting go phase" of being a parent...its going to be easier everytime. Sure, I still worry about all my kids-its only natural. I was probably more scared for myself -how I would feel when that day arrived......and its not as scary as I thought that it would be
Anyway, I am excited for her & I can't wait for those pictures to come rolling in. We used to live in Wisc. & I hear that the scenery in Canada is just gorgeous this time of year like Wisc...only better. She's going to cherish this trip forever...moreso b/c she did everything herself.

Go You! Not easy giving them those wings and how nice to smile as they let them catch the wind.

I am so pleased that you are feeling OK now and that everything went well. I have been following this thread since your first post.

    I feel your pain.
I too am dreading the moment when we bring our 19 year old daughter to London and leave her there for 6 months.
She will come home a couple of times but still......
I think that I am like you, dreading the day that it all happens.

Aww...I was worried too...but I think that most of my worry came from how I was going to handle it b/c I've never been through this stage before.Sure, they come & go as they please locally...but this was a big step. But I can assure you Dutchie...once you have said your "goodbyes" its a little easier.....and the pride that you will feel b/c you know that your child (now an adult) has been instilled with your values (& you know you've done everything possible to raise them right)...they are going to reflect that knowledge when they are on their own. It's an exciting time My Dd has sent me pictures, has called me every day so far & emailed me. The excitement in her voice is just priceless

It is hard the first few times on letting them go but it does get easier.

I was an absolute wreck when my son flew to London by himself for college ~ I don't think I slept well the entire time he was there. And then my daughter went to Italy ~ sick to my stomach!!

But they have great memories just like your daughter will! It's tough being a parent!

I think, what is helping me too, is that there is alot going on here at home. It has helped to keep my mind off of it...and I "forget" to worry...before I know it,she'll be home
We have a "tradition" - that when Dh would have to be apart from us for several days/weeks at a time, we would cross out each day before we all went to bed - like a "count-down" until the day that he would return home. We're also doing this during Amber's trip. My youngest dd (age 8)didn't take her sister's absence very well at first, & by doing the "count-down",she feels better and isn't so teary

Lol...I was sweating by the time we finished! I had to move our "walton table" to the other end of the room. Had to wait until the sun went down so the sunlight wouldn't peek through the blinds(background). Then we had to turn the ceiling fan off so the air movement woudn't blow the blinds around.Top that off with trying to keep everyone from goofing off, while I stood on a chair to take the pics.Lol...I think I took like 25 pictures & barely half of them were nice enough to keep....but it was alot of fun too

We used to do the count-down thing, too!

When DH would go out to sea, we would make a paper chain and take off one loop every day or we would make a special calendar and cross off each day LOVE IT!!!
