When things are somewhat good things always take a turn
My crazy life.... I am working very hard to make everything in my life simple. With that being said I have started a small stock pile (still very small), started declutting my house, basement and garage. We have start a major life overhaul. I started canning which lasted us all winter and did some freezing too. This year our garden is now three times the size we started with.
We do live in the city but we are blessed to live on a double lot. We had plans of getting chickens this year. We have made it to have a grocery bill of $25 a week for two people. We stopped eating out and we are working on paying down our debt. So I thought things was going somewhat well........ now everything feels like it has went crazy. The house we live in we rent and have been there for about five years. We are settled we are rotted there we are happy. Landlord showed up Friday evening to tell us they have decided to sell the house. They are putting the house on the market by the end of June. So my husband ask what he is asking for in price thinking maybe we could get a loan for it and buy the house. He wants way to much. So the landlord tells us that he will put it in that we have 30 days from the time the home sells to move. 30 days??? If the home was to sell fast where are we going to go? What about all our hard work in our garden. We would have to leave it. I am so disappointed. So after talking with my DH he said we need to start looking now for somewhere to move....easier said then done. We have three dogs (2big ones), cat and fish. Its so hard to find someone to rent to us with our animals and I am not willing to part with them. Plus my garden!!! I might loose me whole harvest. I am so stressed out! I don't think we will be able to get a home loan because we have a lot of debt still and I just opened my own business in Feb. which is still not really making much of a profit. I am confused and MAD! I don't know what we will do if it sells fast!
Sorry to vent

Do you have a lease? If you have a lease, you should be able to stay to the end of your lease - the sale of the house would be subject to any existing leases.
If you don't, then you are on a month-to-month tenancy, and your landlord is right. And I can understand how frustrating that is for you, especially with your garden. On the plus side, if you do find some place that is suitable, you only have to give one month's notice to your landlord.
I hope things work out ok, renting with animals is always tough.

Vent away...that's a terrible position to be in...having said that, I think hubby is right...best to start looking now...also, it could take months to sell the house, especially if his asking price is unreasonable.
Good luck with everything!!BEF: $$120/$1000

When Good Things Go Bad
I know how hard it is to find a place to live, with 4 people in the home and 3 dogs and 2 cat. Many landlords will not accept alot of pets. Right now we live in the country where we can have all are pets. I know what it like to have to give up your garden, that has happen to us before. I hope everything work out for you ok. I wish you the best luck.

My mom rented a house we lived in when I was in high school and the same thing happened. They put it on the market and instead of letting us live there until it sold they have us 30 days. That house ended up sitting vacant for a year until it sold!
I think you should start looking now. Having a plan of action will help you feel less rush and much more confident in your future! Good luck!Working on Our Debt a Day at a Time:

that just stinks but I hate to say that the advice given is the correct advice. Better to take control of the bad situation. Look for another place now. Having animals is going to make it more difficult to find a place.
good luck!Judy

Hope everything works out for you. If you have the space in your future yard, I would take your garden with you. You planted it, you can take it. The market is still rocky, so you might make it through the Summer where you are. Curve balls are not fun, but you can get through this. You may find a terrific space with room for a bigger garden
. Keep us posted with your housing situation. Wishing you the best.

I'm so sorry to hear that happened. I like Laines ides of taking your garden with you. I once just moved in to a rental and a week later was informed it had been sold and I had 30 days. I was mad but you know what things always seem to workout for the better. I think something better than that house must be waiting for you!

Don't panic.
Well the end of June is 30 days away, and that's when he's putting it ON the market. The sale process is likely to take about a month as well - so if he finds a buyer on July 1 then the closing may happen by July 31, and then you have 30 days so right now you're a minimum of 90 days from moving, not 30.
Curious - what is he asking and what do you pay monthly in rent?So my husband ask what he is asking for in price thinking maybe we could get a loan for it and buy the house. He wants way to much.
Stop planting anything you can't harvest by the end of July. What about all our hard work in our garden.
It's shocking news, but it's not as bad as you're currently thinking it is. You have more time than you think - so make the most of it and get hunting for a new home.If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Thanks for all the kind words.
We do have a lease which is up as of the end of June. He said he will do a month to month after that until the house sells. Landlord called this morning stating that he has a agent coming tomorrow to do a walk threw so he can get it on the market. He said he is going to have a new roof put on the house and garage, put siding on the outside of the house(its a brick house), put in a deck and pour a new driveway. He asked if I was taking all my flowers, decorative rocks and stones. I said yep! He said he is selling all his rentals so they can retire. I understand where he is coming from but I was not planning for this.
Taking our garden with us sounds like a great plan but I would be afraid I will kill the stuff. We somewhat a big city garden.... 15 tomato plants, 12 zucchini, 12 other types o squash, corn, tons of green beans, bush beans, carrots, broccoli, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins and two weekends ago we put in a strawberry patch. So I don't know how much we could really move but I would sure try.
I am stressed. Things was starting to look up and where on a curve road. My DH is being so sweet! He keeps finding the upside to everything..... we can redecorate, we can start over fresh, that blessing start with new beginnings, that maybe we could have our own little farm now and so on. I am in the mode of thinking not packing and moving again. This is the longest we have stayed in a house. We have live 7 places in 12 years of marriage.
On a up side I am looking for something in the country.
not having much luck on the net so it looks like we will be going for a country drive this weekend.
Thanks again everyone!

The house across the street was on the market a year and didn't sell. Now it is off the market. It could take forever or 30 days to sell. I know how upset you must be and also how worried but you could harvest the whole garden before the house sells. You could also find a nice place as your dh suggests that is even more cost friendly. It could happen.
Good luck! The math never lies, budget in INK!

Like Greebo said you have at least until the end of July. Pick and can/preserve everything you can. I would take every last plant with me. The large boxes that copy paper comes in would be great for moving tomato plants etc in and you can probably get those from an office for free (we always have them at school). Replant quickly and fertilize to help them re-establish themselves. You'll probably lose some but it's worth a shot to try.

I am sorry he is doing this to you. Maybe it will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. You may find a place you will love much better. I would love to see photos of how you set your yard up at the house. I bought this house on a double lot and it seems so small for everything I want to do. You must be very creative!

Sucky thngs happen in life and once you get over your upset, I can see you charging ahead with a positive attitude. Your life is still on the upswing, you just don't know where this upswing is taking you this time. Keep us informed!!
