charitable gift giving?
So this all started because my DD7 is so upset about the oil spill that she wants to do something so we went looking and found
IBRRC: Adopt-a-Bird program
She agreed to do extra stuff around the house until she had earned half to adopt the baby duckling and I would give her the other half. (I just remembered that’s in US funds not Canadian) anyways. After talking she asked if there were other things she could to do help people in need or mother earth. I found her willingness to help other overwhelming it almost made me cry. We live below the poverty line ourselves, but I have always told her that there our people worse off than us because we have food in our belly and a roof over our head. So even if it is just something small we should always try to help because at some point we have needed the help or may in the future. And that mother earth is something to be protected. We always give to the food bank twice a year even if it is only one or two cans of something. I myself am extremely sensitive to others in need and the environment, so is my daughter. My first major project in grade 5 was on the Exxon Valdez. And when I was 12 I saved up 20 dollars to donate to Cheo.(Childrens Hospital) Anyways this all lead to WWF website WWF - Gift Center
So for Christmas she wants to know if someone in the family would adopt a sea turtle on her behalf. I told her probably.
Which then lead me to Meaningful Gifts | Heifer International Online Gift Catalog
I was just wondering if anyone has done this for someone or had it done for them and how legit it all is? Or do you know of legit places to do this. I would hate to think that the money she sent or was sent on her behalf was not going to where she thinks it is.2012 Challenges

Heifer international is good. I also like UNICEF inspired gifts: UNICEF USA: Inspired Gifts CHarity Navigator is a great site to use when considering a donation to a non-profit.
I love being a History Teacher!
