Argh! package misrouted rant!
I ordered a textbook online last Friday because the bookstore at the college has no used ones in this particular book and the new ones are outrageously priced. The site I ordered from guarantees to buy it back so it will only end up costing me ~$50 instead of $150-$200.
I paid for UPS two day delivery because I need this book by next Monday at the latest. This particular class starts Tuesday. My book is supposed to be delivered today.
So I look at the online tracking a few minutes ago and it says Exception. UPS sent my textbook to Phoenix AZ! I fired off an email to the company with a screenshot of the UPS tracking page.
I'll give them a little time to respond if they don't then I will call.

Oh, I hate that!! Every time I order from Old Navy the package spends 3 days in New Orleans which is 90 minutes from here. Really??

I know it isn't much consolation, but UPS should refund the shipping price to the seller and the seller should refund the shipping to you.
You could call them. They might be willing to ship you another one at no charge and you could refuse the second one and it will be returned to the seller.Mary

They responded rather quickly by email. They are refunding me the shipping cost and they said that UPS should have it to me by the end of the week.
savvy-sniper: that would be a good idea except UPS just leaves packages at my doorstep. They don't knock.
If they can get it here by Monday I'll be okay with it.
The part that p**ses me off is the way the tracking details read, the book was here in my town this morning, and instead of putting it on the truck for delivery, sent it off to Phoenix.“When you get to the end of all the light you know

According to the UPS tracking, my textbook has gone from Phoenix to Albuquerque to Louisville, KY.
Umm, that is the WRONG WAY.
They give a rescheduled delivery date of tomorrow.

Hope it gets to you soon. Starting classes is stressful enough without this junk!!

It might have been routed to KY because that is the airplane hub. All the plane packages go there.
I use to work at UPS with the tractor trailer trucks division (feeder). I know they did that with a few packages that got routed to the wrong place. We had to catch the drivers going to the airport and make sure they got the package. Once, the trailer was all closed up and everything and the driver was at the gate. He was the very last driver going over to the airport. He had to put it in the tractor with him (big major "nono").Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

Ah I see, thanks.
Makes sense. The tracking now shows it's back in Oakland so most likely I'll be getting it tomorrow.
I wouldn't care so much if it was clothing or some other item. Something like that can get here when it gets here. But I need that book for Tuesday. Anyways. It will be here in time, that's all that matters now, that and they refunded my shipping. So it will only cost me ~$40 to use the textbook now, once I sell it back to them.“When you get to the end of all the light you know

That is a big pita. A couple years ago I got the Hershey's Bliss house party from houseparty.com and they sent the package with DHL. DHL routed it out a couple of places then it came near here then they sent it out of state and then it came back to us. We called and asked why it said it was sent out of state then back here. They said that is how they do things. The got the package here a hour or so before the party was supposed to start. We put the chocolate in the freezer to firm up.

My most recent experience with UPS: We ordered two small tires/wheels to be delivered to our home, about a $125.00 value. I watched the tracking online and knew what day to expect the package. That evening the online tracking said "delivered at front door." It wasn't at our door, so I thought, oh, okay, it's next door, but it wasn't. I finally called the 800 number and heard a recording, stating it had been delivered at (specific address) which happened to be NINE MILES AWAY. When I finally got a human being on the phone to ask about a solution, he said, "Well, if you happen to be going that way..." They wanted me to make an 18-mile round trip to pick up a package I had paid to be delivered to my house, and offered no explanation whatsoever about why it was done.

I probably would have made the trip. Once FedEx had a package that was scheduled to be delivered on a Friday, but there was no way that was going to happen due to weather. It did make it to the ship center in a nearby city. Neither the computer nor phone person had udpdated information regarding a delay to ship date, even though it was obvious. I wanted to just go to the distribution center to pick it up, but they were not willing to accept this alternative as a way to meet their estimated arrival date.
