What colors would you wear to a funeral?
I am trying to pare my wardrobe down.
And I'm trying to figure out clothes + occasions.
Sometime, there will be a funeral to attend. So, would you consider a light-navy dress appropriate for a funeral? What if it turns out to be a funeral for a close relative?
What colors would you personally wear to a funeral?2012 Knitting in progress

You must be in my head because for some strange reason I was thinking about this same thing today. I really don't have anything in my wardrobe to wear to a funeral and I would have to shop.
Yes, I would think a navy dress would be perfect. But I haven't been to a funeral in years....so not much help.

I'd wear navy, brown, gray or black.
I have a Winter/fall church/going out outfit that is a dark gray skirt and a black/red/dark gray combo blouse, that I wear whenever there's a funeral. Of course that outfit is for cooler weather, I suppose it really would be a good idea to have a Summer outfit in darker colors. Thanks for bringing this subject up, it's something I need to address.~~~

Conservative colors and styles - always appropriate.

I have a black/red accent ankle length skirt with a black blouse and black velvet pants with a black blouse. I have worn both combos to funerals.
ETA: I think Navy is fine.

I would base it by what people do in your circle.
I rarely see the seas of black like I do on TV. As long as it is not cutesy and playful, it pretty much goes here.

I've seen people dressed in pastels, bright prints, traditional black, etc. I"m not sure that today's ettiquette demands dark and conservative clothing for funerals anymore.
Personally I dress conservatively, but not necessarily totally in dark colors.

Depends on who's laid out. If I thought they'd get a smile out of a day-glo orange shirt and neon blue tie, and a tux coat, pants, and vest, I'd wear it. I really don't care about what the living think at a funeral. But, I'm weird...

I wear black and/or grey for the funeral. Usually something in brown/white for the visitation.

I wear anything but bright bright colors. No brown or grey though as I really dislike those two.

~I always wear color to funerals. I think it's less about color and more about how flashy you appear. Clothes with simple lines and detailing(no abundance of lace, ruffles or embellishments)and sedate patterns(no big florals or anything cutesy like hearts or store logos). Business attire is very appropriate. And keep the accessories and make-up to a minimum.
Your light navy dress, providing that it's a simple style, sounds appropriate to me.~~Constance

I go either black or grey overall, but I will add a splash of colour, whether it's a scarf or a bracelet.

Navy is totally fine. I prefer to wear some color. I've only been to a few funerals in my life but I try to celebrate the persons life and not their death. As long as what you wear is tasteful then you'll be fine.

I would wear anything BUT a festive dress (think flowery/bright print), or overly decorative suit or dress. I think even a beige suit would do if it isn't--say--lacy or frilly.
I think it's more about simplicity. Outfits without frill and froo-froo.______
