Sears & Roebuck Kit Houses ~ cool pics
Sears & Roebuck sold kit houses out of their catalog from 1908 until 1940. I thought this site was really interesting! It shows the different plans, prices, etc through the years....
If you pay attention to each link, you'll see when they started adding an indoor bathroom to all homes, and then the first of the 2nd bathrooms was added (it was for the purpose of a second FAMILY)!!!
Too cool!
I didn't realize that they had closets as early on as they did - I thought closet space didn't start until the 20's, but alas, I was wrong.
Enjoy!!

All I can say is cool. Years ago I had a book of their plans but it came up missing. Sigh.

Love these links. I swear more then a few look like homes from our area! I wonder?
Oh Wow! Under $1000!!! The cost of building a home in 1908 to 2010 has risen beyond belief!
In the 1960's my in-laws bought 2 acres of land and built a custom one of a kind rancher for the grand total of $15,000!
Today's prices? Wow! This certainly is an interesting link back through history. Thanks for posting!~~~

I have a friend who owned a Sears kit house. It was incredible!!! She bought it for 4,000 and had it moved 30 miles onto their property.

I know of one in our area. The only reason I knew about it was because my Grandfather was a plumber and electrician and he worked on it. I'll have to look at the link and see if I can find that house.
