    Default collecting grey water

    Hello FV family,
I was wondering if anyone here is collecting grey water. If so, how and do you have any tips to offer.

I was thinking of just getting a simple siphon to use to take some water out of the rinse cycle before it goes down the drain. I also was thinking of how to collect water from the shower. Bucket maybe??? I would appreciate your ideas on this matter.

For the rinse cycle, could you just remove the hose from the drain and let it cycle out into a collection tank/barrel? If you own your home, you could re-rout the tub drain to one also. If not, ye' ole bucket routine it is, I think.

back when I was useing the wringer washer I would always use the wash water to water the garden when I got done. You would need a pretty large barrel to get the water out of an automatic washer. Mine holds 25 gal of water for each fill. You could put the hose into a barrel after the wash cycle was done before it spins out but you would want to make sure that you had a large container or reroute the entire line. The only other time I used gray water was when we was liveing in our travel trailor and it was easy to use it.

i will try some of these ideas. I hope they work. I read a story once that during the drought a woman had collected grey water for her garden. The city tried to fine her but she was collecting grey water so they couldn't do anything.

We stand in a large trug/bucket in the shower and use this to flush the toilet. we save about 4 or 5 flushes with this.

I also wash up by hand ( never had a dishwasher) and this means that I can recycle all of this into the toilet too.

We are on a water meter and we have reduced our water bill be doing this.
