Now that dd is older( and the last of our 3 dds in school) she really tries to condense what she has as she doesn't like to use her lockers because of time constraints. That means she carries all her stuff.

Our school gives the kids books for home and also keeps a set in each class so she doesn't have to carry any text books, just binders, folders etc.

She grabs a pen, a pencil,a red pen and a highlighter. She has notebook paper and whatever binder/folders she needs and she calls it a day. Half of what she needs is already in the supply box.

    For her less is more.

Also she carries a bag and not a backpack. Last year she found a cute one at target in the purse aisle for under 10 bucks. Lasted all year and all the girls were using similar.

She know her Mama well. If we have a budget of $1000 for clothes, shoes, supplies, eye exam, glasses and contacts. If she shops well then the excess rolls over to other items she wants. I don't "pocket" the change so to speak. She is a savvy shopper.

Very smart girl to realize that she can get more if she shops wise (since you don't pocket the change )

The older children here don't get much locker time either so the middle school children carry everything including text books (backpacks are not allowed during the day at school only to and from)
The high school allows backpack use from class to class during the day. My friend that has high school age kids says "buy a very good big backpack because it will be used very heavily as they carry everything in them".

Seems like lockers in my neck of the woods are just coat closets.
