Shape Up's...Do they work?
I have been debating whether or not to buy a pair of Shape ups. $100 is a LOT for a pair of shoes but I would be willing to spend that amount if they really do help with toning. Anyone out there who has a pair I would be very appreciative of your input!
Thanks!

Skechers
I got a pair of white Skechers for my birthday almost 2 months ago from my dd. I absolutely love them. They are comfy and at the end of the day my feet don't hurt. They make me a little taller but I could use the height anyway as I'm barely 5'1". I can't tell by looking that I've toned up any but you can sure feel your muscles being used.

I bought them for myself and you definitely feel like you are working out your legs.
I did have to start slowly with them because they affected my ankle -

I tried them in the store and found them very uncomfortable. IMO you get "toning" by being active, walking, etc. not from a fancy shoe.

I've heard quite a bit about the science behind those shoes (friends with a physiotherapist/physical trainer. Basically, walking on an uneven surface that has a bit of give would have the same effect (ie, walking along a beach barefoot). They *might* do some light toning but nothing that would be noticeable if you have any excess fat over those muscles. The shoes don't increase fat burning so unless you are already very slim and just looking for a way to possibly tone your calves (which, if you're already slim are probably just fine already)...the shoes are a waste of money.

payless has their own brand for under 40$ .
i have the champion brand fit flop type of things from payless - i love them toning wise i cant say for 100% sure due to my fibro i will never be toned like i use to be but my calves def feel a little more toned -but that could be i am active more in warm weather - i can tell you i can spend alot more time on my feet in them then i would in regular summer shoes.
i also have at least 5 friends / aquaintances- co-workers who swear by their sketchers not so much for toning but the fact it forces them to keep their body in good alignment in order to be properly balanced on them and they have had less back pain .
i needed walking sneaks ( i tend to wear sketcher slip on backless shoes/ sneaks for everyday + work as i dont like things touching my heels ( an nerve over sensativity thing from my fibro ) but they are horrid for walking - so i got from payless champion brand toning sneaks - they arent the big - clunky looking like sketchers they have a slightly rounded are on the soles- look like reg sneaks and are very comfy - i walked thru hershey park with them this month and lasted dbl what i would with my reg sneaks.
but payless also has the ones that look just like sketchers .*~Debbi~*

IMO. . .
If you purchase a pair of shoes to get fit in, you will use them to be more active so you will by all reasoning, get more fit. It is a vicious cycle! LOL! But then again, if a new pair of shoes is what it takes. . . why not, people have got motivated by less. The main thing is to get active! =D

I have seen Dr. Sholes (sp?) brand of these. They are selling them at my local Wally World. They were somewhere between $30-$40 dollars. I have been wanting a pair but money is tight right now so I haven't bought them.

I've got the Sketchers flip flop shape ups. Comfy, but not toning a thing.

My mom has a couple of pair of them and absolutely loves them. She's a nurse, on her feet from 7am until 5pm, and said she has seen a noticeable difference. At first she had to get use to walking in them, but now wears them everyday to work. Definitely not a waste of money and not a piece of crap for her. They are worth the money to her. They hold up well and she can see a difference on her logs and bottom. Plus, she likes them and that is the most important thing to her. She is very, very happy with them and recommends them to everyone who asks.

I wouldn't buy any shoe for more than $30. Relearn how to walk and run barefoot or with minimalist footwear. You will definitely tone your calves at low expense. I wear an $8 pair of aqua socks from WM all the time except when I go barefoot, which is when I'm home. google barefoot running

Yep I have them
Hello
I have a pair. I am also a nurse and do quite a bit of walking during the day. The first day that I wore them, I noticed that my butt was sore when I got home. They took me about a week to get used to, I felt like I was drunk and having to really work on my balance. I kept wondering if people were looking at me funny because I was really having to concentrate on how I walk.
At the end of the day, my feet do not hurt.
I don't really notice a difference in the toning of my legs and have had my pair since January.
I would not spend another 100 dollars on them although they are comfortable.

11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
