    Default Summer Drinks

Can you share your favorite summer drinks? I'm looking for non-alcoholic, nutritious, yummy drinks. Have a Vita Mix blender, so can do some serious mixing. Also want the drinks to be fairly frugal.

I'm interested in fruit based drinks, coffee based drinks, maybe even veggie drinks. Might be smoothies, but not necessarily so.

    Thanks for your help.

Other than smoothies, I'm not really sure. I'm interested to hear what other ideas and recipes people have. Thanks for starting this thread, FHG!

i am boring my fav drink is summer is ice cold water - my fridge/freezer has filtered water and ice so i can grab a cold cup in a few seconds whenever .
low calorie and cheap too LOL
anything with milk dairy in it is too heavy for me in the warm weather

i have read a lot though about having some fruit juice added to water as a new trend-more a flavored water ?

Must admit that I drink more water than anything, and I think that's good. But I wanted to try some new ideas for some refreshing summer drinks.

the other day my kids were bugging me for mr softee( ice cream truck ) i tossed some ice in my blender added some choc pudding mix and made kid of a creamy water ice for them - but i could have made it with a little milk or extra water and made it kind of a choc slushy. anyway they loved it it didnt cost me a dime as compared to 2$ each for the ice cream truck !

My Mom uses whey protein powders to make "breakfast" shakes. They come in lots of flavors these days such as caramel, orange cream, along with the standard chocolate, vanilla, etc.

She uses them to compliment the primary flavor, so... caramel with coffee, the orange cream with bananas. You get the idea. She just adds milk or cottage cheese and ice.

I even bought a bag of unflavored whey so I could make my own too. I love peanut butter and banana.

I'm also pretty boring...and not especially healthy, lol. My favorite hot weather drink is a variation of a snow cone, lol.

I like to blend up ice, cold water, and half a pouch of BLUE kool-aid Jammers (or Mondo coolers) for flavor and color. Kool-aid on its own is just too sweet for me, but I like to have a little now and then. It tastes SO much better super cold and watered down, lol.

In our house we also like to buy the packages of frozen fruit...we like the mixed or simply just the frozen strawberries. Throw that into a blender with ice and a little splash of orange juice or water. It generally tends to come out a little more like a sorbet than a classic smoothie.

My favorite: plain old seltzer water in a glass with ice and a little bit of lime juice. Fresh lime juice is better It's refreshing, frugal, fizzy , and practically no calorie w/o fake sweeteners!

We like freckled lemonade. We take regular lemonade and add pureed strawberries to it.

I also like crystal lite and I mix the fruit punch and lemonade. It tastes just like Hawaiian Punch.

I've also made my own version of V8. I take crushed tomatos and chicken broth and it's pretty good when chilled. You can add your own spices and herbs to your taste.

Today I will be making some homemade ice tea and lemonade. I bought a glass of lemonade the other day and it was just awful.

Oh! I forgot about a drink that included a simple syrup, basil that had been muddled, lime juice and either lemonade or club soda. It was bright, refreshing, not to sweet and thirst quenching.
