Exclamation chicken nugget recall -- great vaule brand

It appears to be that it is only the great value ( walmart brand) of chicken nuggets.
The details are in the article.

Frozen Chicken nuggets Recall Announced by USDA | Headliner Watch

Side note: I don't think the picture matches the recalled product as it doesn't look anything like the great value brand to me

National- Frozen chicken products are being banned by the USDA. Its has said that it would be recalling around 91,872 pounds of frozen chicken nugget food packets out of health concern. The company suspects it to contain foreign materials.

The products which have been banned include 1lb 13oz bag of “GREAT VALUE Fully Cooked Chicken Products.”
There's the answer right there - out of 91K pounds of chicken products, Great Value brand is only one of them. Thats why the pic doesn't match the article. HTH

    Thanks for the heads up!

    The article also says
"These chicken nuggets were produced on June9, 2010, and are available nationwide in a single retail store chain. It contains 8 bags."

It appears that the Great value is the only one involved.

So am I the only tightwad that heard these were made by Purdue and will probably start buying Great Value in lieu of the pricier Purdue from now on?

Purdue prob recalled their nuggets b/c they're processed/purchased from the same plant that does the Great Value brand. Its better to voluntarily recall then be singled out later. No PR is better then bad PR right?

Here's a link I found on the Purdue brand (though never heard of them): Recall Alert: Perdue Farm's Chicken Nuggets - U.S. BBB

I'm confused by what you are trying to say.

Yes, Purdue recalled their chicken nuggets but the recall only includes the "great value brand" that they make.

The link you posted to says so. "The recall involves only Great Value-branded fully cooked chicken nuggets"

Being frugal I always love it when I find out that national brands make generic brands.
Once when touring a plant we learned that all they really did was change the packaging. Another plant we visited said they changed the ingredients slightly.

It always makes it definitely worth trying the generic every time I hear about a name brand company making a generic.

I chuckled about the Victoria Secrets brand. I used to work for a lingerie factory and we shipped to VS.
It is just a matter of cutting out the tags and putting in VS tags if we ran short on a order. Go to Walmart and buy the same bra....your wallet will like you better
I was on piecework and put the price tags, etc on the clothing.
Label change was usually a busy area, switching the garment tags around if a bigger order had to go out and we ran short on something.

I'm trying to say that Pudue & Great Value are prob processed in same plant on same machines at the same factory. If the line they used to make Great Value is the same as the Purdue, there's chance that Purdue may have chunks of foreign matter in them too. Hence their voluntary recall.

How bad would it look that the Great Value recall has come and gone and they're back in good standing only to have a Purdue chicken nugget recall issued - knowing they're made on the same machines at the same factory. By Purdue taking the precaution now they are avoiding potential for their name to be dragged through the mud b/c this was preventable by doing as they are now - issuing a voluntary recall.

Hope that helps you understand what I was trying to say.

    Recall Release CLASS II RECALL
    FSIS-RC-046-2010 HEALTH RISK: LOW

    From the one website listed.
    health risk is LOW

And probably all from the same factory...same lines...same equipment.....same employees....just different batches.

I also used to work for a saurkruat factory.
Same vats, same processing lines, same everything.
Just different orders from different stores and however the buyer wanted them packaged....glass jars or plastic bags.

ladytoysdream - I agree...I didn't like working in food manufacturing but it was a job.

The sad part is a lot of the recalls are due to OE (operator error) The people manning the production lines - not everyone - but most are there to earn a quick buck and don't pay enough attention to what they're hired to do. If they had been paying attention there'd be less errors with production. (at least in the places I've worked)

Yes,that make since to me that they might have plastic in other chilcken products they make Hence their voluntary recall. But they didn't recall any other lines just the great value

Which to date they haven't done

I'm still confused so I put my confusion in bold above

I was saying Purdue brand DID voluntarily recall their nuggets though the official recall is on Great Value.

One brand of nuggets...one batch ...has been recalled it looks like . So maybe just a fluke...operating error.....it was caught...and voluntarily recalled. Rest of the products are probably fine.

If the factory catches it, and does their own recall, it looks better for them.
