Dipped into my BEF
to buy from a friend the remaining time on a CSA share. $240 for at least 12 weeks. The coming up weeks will have loads of stuff compared to the first few weeks of the share that went by already. I've got basil in my dehydrator, some garlic, lots of lettuce, string beans, carrots, kale, summer squash. I'll be freezing and juicing tomorrow and weeks to come....

What is CSA?
Are you paying $240 each week?
I am missing something here and would love to be enlightened!!

MM-I believe he's talking about a farm share. You prepay a farm and you get a certain amount of boxes filled w/ veg, over a preset amt of weeks. It's a great thing to dip into a BEF for. He will save hundreds on food and eat so much healthier. The only thing is you get what thye give you according to how well each crop grows. Itr's getting more and more popular to do this and support local farms.

CSA - Community Supported Agriculture. The farmer estimates what he/she can grow, figures out how many people that can feed, divides it out into shares and half-shares of the crop. Buyers pay for it before it's planted. The farmer gets money upfront without going to a bank to borrow it, and the buyer shares the risks in growing produce (and some cases, meat). The buyer gets fresh picked food once a week until frost.

While it's a great bargain, next year, you'll have the $$ saved up for the CSA so you don't tap into the EF for *food* right?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
