Don't get taken in by
web sites that ask for your cell phone number! A few days ago I was looking online for some recipes and came to one site that asked for my cell phone number. I had no clue so I gave it and got a text message right back saying it would send me a recipe of my choice to my cell. I didn't do that though.
Anyway today on my noon news broadcast they were talking about facebook and how people were getting charged for taking quizzes and playing some games. They asked for your cell phone number and what they are really doing is getting you signed up for some monthy service of whatever.
Well bells were going off in my head about the site asking me for my cell number. I right away called my cell provider and sure enough I was signed up for a 9.99 a month service for who knows what. She cancelled it and refunded my money! If I would have not seen that news cast I would have been charged who knows how long. I do know how much my bill should be and would have noticed then but, still I was shocked!
Don't give out your cell number for anything. They just sign you up and you don't even realize it! On the news people were zapped for a lot more than 9.99 .

Sometimes it's blocked if you won't give your cell # so I give my old cell I haven't had for years.

You know I thought of that at the time. This one sent a password to the cell number you gave so you could access the recipe site. So if you gave a wrong number you would not get the code.
Now even though I got that cancelled who knows who will have my cell number for all kinds of unwanted calls. Argh!!Married 22 years to Mark

Dh did this a few times, he did the one on facebook and then another one. I got the one from facebook taken care of but it took me about 6 months to track down the other one and cancel it. Even the cell company couldn't give me information on how to cancel it. He is now not allowed to give his cell number out lol

I have not given my personal cell phone to anyone other than family or the doctor, but somehow somewhere the number got out and I keep getting called by someone who babbles Russian at me - I gather it's some sort of phone service which I neither want nor need - they share the numbers as a couple of similar services have called. I do not answer the cell when it's a number I don't recognize, then google the number to figure out what it is. I did answer once when I thought it was a friend who recently lost his wife, same area code and first three digits, so I thought it was him!

I heard that in Japan and elsewhere in the Pacific Rim cell phones are used like credit cards.
