Random Thought - People Parking Cars
Just a random thought - why do people park their cars on the street when they have a really long or double wide driveway?
I mean I can see if you have kids and you want them to play there instead of the sidewalk/street OR if you need to the car shuffle with the spouse but why do people do this? The best scenario I've seen, they've moved their car outta their drive way so the guest can park there (um...your driveway is double wide and can hold 4 cars)
Just wondering.

Libby-hot topic w/ me. The neighbors I'm not too fond of. have 3 kids driving and 2 cars of their own. The college DD is home now. She basically parks her car 2 ft. off the neighbors lawn across the street from her house. She lands and runs in he house. GRRR. DD's BF almost hit it last night w/ his old truck.
The neighbor to the left of us has no less than 5-6 cars in their drive at all times and a work truck in front from BABYDADDY. It's like a car lot.
I TRY to mind my own business but both families are coming and going from 4:30 a.m until 2am the next day. SHUT UP PEOPLE when you get in your car and then park it in the street.
Where I used to live it was a ticketable offense. @ families though constantly disrupt the whole otherwise nice quiet neighborhood.
Forgot to say-thats another reason air conditioning needs fixing, so i can shut the windows.

i park in the street although i have a short driveway because the neighbors refuse to cut down this pine tree that drips sap all over my car . and birds sit in it and crap all over my car . i travel to all my patients houses dont have the time to wash a car everyday and dont think it looks too professional to drive up to a home in a poop covered car .
also because i get nervous backing out that some little kid will dart behind my car just when i pull out and after i looked to make sure its clear.
most people that have accidentally run over children they know or are parents of - its in their drives .
and lastly because its easier for me to pull up in front of my house and pull away in the AM because we live near a high school and an elementary school and have alot of traffic in AM ( and alot of kids walking the sidewalk too )
that said one of the older kids with their own cars do park in the driveway . they have lower vehicles and usually dont leave at high traffic times ( my street is a small side street that goes from dead all day to busy when school starts and ends )
and alot of people like the drive open for kids to play on with their big wheels and stay on their own property where they can be seen as opposed to taking the sidewalk ride up and down the street where they can end up out of site or hurt by someone else backing out of their drive .
very hard to see a kid on a bigwheel or trike for a driver backing out if they dont see them coming they cant see it when the childs behind them even in a smaller car .
so my main reasons are
# 1 safety of children mine and others
# 2 stupid sappy pine tree and bird poo*~Debbi~*

i think you can get ticketed for being parked 2 feet from the curb - you can around here - i have made my older dd go out and park better more than once the first 6 months she was driving .

My driveway can hold up to seven vehicles, but I don't want any parking there except for our three cars. If someone's car leaks oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid or any thing else it will stain the driveway. Big stains on the driveway are an eyesore, make the drive look untidy and a pet peeve of mine.
I never park in anyone's driveway. My cars don't leak, but I am not taking the chance of messing up their driveway just in case.DD (19)

I have the opposite problem, people wanting to park in the driveway instead of the street.
This is a problem because we have a short drive and it is what they call here a "shared drive" meaning the exit to the street is ours and the neighbors. The driveways look like a Y.
If someone comes to visit and pulls in to the drive behind our car they block the drive exit and the neighboor can 'texit thier drive.
The neighboor have people that pull into the drive all the time "just for a few seconds" or"just to run in" and then we can't get in our drive or out.
When the nextdoor house had a diffrent owner I use to have to go knock on the door to ask them to move their car so I could get out.
Everyone is always polite about it and understands. Shared drives are not overly common here but they are far from rare too.
The ones I think would be harder are when the drive is not only shared but so is the garage."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I have an Aunt that never parked in the driveway and she would have a fit if you came to give her a ride and you pulled up in the driveway. If I knew it was a pet peeve, I would not have done it. She just did not want cars on the driveway. For no particular reason other than she did not like it. My Dh never used to park in his driveway out of habit. He bought his parents house and they used to park in the driveway. When they passed he never thought to park in the driveway.
