Default one way to get a telemarketer to hang up on YOU

so telemarketer calls .. my youngest answers-tm asks him to do a survey - he says I am 9 .... they ask for his mom or dad.

I tell 13 yo to tell them we are both busy. ( me doing dishes- dh is mowing lawn so not a lie)

so she says ummmmm uhhhhhh ......"THEY'RE in the bath" ........

    lady goes uhhhhhhh.okayyyy ... CLICK ,,,,,,,,

Telemarketer calls for my college housemate. I say "Mr ____ is not available." The caller asks "Is Mrs. _____ available?"

I say "Oh no, honey, Mrs. ____ no longer lives with Mr. ____".

    Telemarketer stutters and hangs up.

It was true, though. Mrs. ____, his mother, did not live there.

    That is to funny....
    I have one for you...
When a TM calls us we put the dog on the phone and my husband gets him to whine and cry and howl... It is way to funny as the Tm is rambeling on and on and then realizes that it is not human that she is talking to and hangs up...

i am usually very nice to telemarketers its the ones that call repeatedly until you answer 4-5 x in an hour that get dr phil.

i kind of feel bad for them.... i am sure no one wakes up every AM and says yeah i get to be a telemarketer today !!

i also will tell them if i plan to hang up on them when they won't take no for an answer - i say "okay i know this is your job to not take no for an answer and they are making you read from a script but i am hanging up now- good luck ...."

    Typical call #1:
    TM: *ring*
    Me: Hello
TM: *one second silence* while auto dialer connects TM to line. *Another second of silence while the TM waits for me to say "hello" again.
    Me: *click*

The one second pause is a giveaway. Nobody I want to talk to uses an auto-dialer. I refuse to say "hello" twice.

    Typical call #2:
    TM: *ring*
    Me: Hello
    TM: How are you today?
    Me: *click*

It is rude to not identify yourself immediately when you call someone. Especially when it is a business call. I don't want to talk to anyone that rude.

    Typical call #3:
    TM: *ring*
    Me: Hello
TM: May I please speak to Mrs. KeithBC?
    Me: No. *click*

DW does not use my last name. Nobody that she wants to talk to would call her that.

I have nothing against the poor folks who have to do that job. It's got to really suck to p*** off that many people every day. I figure that by hanging up quickly, I free them up to move on to the next call without wasting a lot of their time.

Lol... reminds me of the time when my elderly parents were being"stalked" by a certain telemarketer....

Tm: Hello, may I please speak to JoAnn?
Dad: No, you can't...she went out back to take a s**t & the hogs ate her!!!
Never heard from them again. LOl.

LOL she actually did it as a slip up - she will usually tell them her mom is in the shower if i am at work etc - they asked for either mom or dad threw and her off - after she said it and realized it her eyes got real big and she was so embarrassed- that was part of it being so funny in real life LOL

    Very funny....

If I happen to pick up and realize to late that it's a TM and they ask for Mr. or Mrs. _____________, I always say...."I'm sorry they are not home, I'm the babysitter, can I help you? Their general answer is "well uuhhmmm we'll call back another time."

Seems to work....then I don't have to get frustrated by listening to their script reading.
"We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
