Red face But they were FREE!!

I stop to get gas on my way to work Monday morning. As I'm pumping the gas, I see three red flat, plastic packages on the ground right in front of my right front tire. I bend down to get a closer look and realize that they are unopened packages of condoms. I also notice that there are labels on the packages. So I bend down to pick them up and see that these have obviously been given out by an HIV prevention organization and, perhaps, fallen out of someone's car.

I think about it for a couple of minutes-- I've just stopped using my oral contraceptives after 14 years due to health reasons. My DH is planning to have a vasectomy done sometime in the near future, but until then we need another form of contraception. Here are six (two to a package) brand new, unopened condoms for free...

And that's when I realize, "Whew, Michelle-you have really gone off the frugal deep end!" I (almost reluctantly) left them behind, right next to the gas pump. Especially after thinking about the fact that these packages have been sitting in the hot sun who knows how long and have been run over by who knows how many cars. I do believe that this was an instance when buying new definitely trumped getting it for free.

Exactly what I was thinking! Could've led to the most expensive free thing I ever found.
