What do you think about when..........
What do you think about when you are doing "mindless" tasks like ironing, cleaning the cooker and in my case jogging on my mini trampoline
?
I find my mind wanders and after I have mentally run through my " to do list", I start to wander off into fantasy land.............
In my fantasy I win a ton of money on the Lottery and then I look at who I can help with it.............in this fantasy I have a private detective who checks out my potential recipients and once I know a bit more about them and their situation I decide how best Ican help them, school fee's, clothes, debt help, that kind of thing.
Then I hopefully get them what they need without them finding out who I am ~ I have never wanted to famous
Talking of famous......................
I also have conversations with famous people such as Simon Cowell ( I don't watch him but it's hard to avoid him!)
Me "Simon, we all know you are never gonna get married, why do you keep pretending?"
No one cares what you get up to in your private life! no we REALLY don't! " "Get over yourself and stop living a lie!"
I think when you are doing mindless tasks around the house, you can really set the world to rights and shouting at the tv and radio is good too and something of a hobby of mine as I get older
Oh, gotta go the men in white coats have arrived!

Normally I have music going on, so I sing. Otherwise I'll wallow in my own pity and tell myself how pointless tasks are, LOL.

I start praying the Our Father and say it over and over. I don't know why I do and sometimes I don't even do it consciously.

Unfortunately my mind is constantly wandering. When I am doing mindless things for work it wanders. Should not be wandering but it does.

Mine usually starts off with my to do list but then moves to mentally performing tasks and figuring out how I would do specific tasks.
My current one is how best to make a small temporary wood burning oven in the back yard. I've seen some pics through an online search but I would like it large enough to bake several loaves and have enough room underneath where the embers and a second fire could be used for Dutch oven cooking. This way I could cook a stew and the bread to serve with it.The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

Lol Karen. I sing, talk to the animals, think about the books I'm reading...
If I have to iron I usually save that for when my fav soap opera, Young & The Restless, is on and laugh and talk to the tv.
Victor is marrying Nikki again?! How many times is that?! Come on...

iPod. Music. Same for taking my walks.
I wish I could get into 'mindfulness' and enjoy the task at hand, but sadly---I just wanna zone out.
I don't want to think.

Oh, gosh, at one point when I was trying to get more in shape, I belonged to a gym. I would do step, and sports walking, and tai chi - whatever I was doing, I would end up obsessing about something at work. And get tenser and tenser, and start moving faster and faster. I always befuddled the instructors!!!!!

I watch a movie when I am ironing. Listen to music or a book on tape when doing cleaning and if I exercise more I would one of the above or read a book if I am walking on a treadmill.

I'm thinking about all the things that need to be done around the house. It's a bad habit I have instead of learning to enjoy myself.

I mostly think about redecorating. I think about moving furniture, changing the drapes, DYI projects, etc. Sometimes I get so distracted by my thoughts I start doing them, like moving the furniture. LOL! There have been times my DH has come home from work and the whole living room (or whatever room I was working in) is totally upside down. It used to drive him crazy, now he sees it as a lovable quirk.

~Interesting responses so far.
My mind actually doesn't wander when I'm doing a "mindless" task. I use the time ironing or washing dishes or folding clothes to breath deeply and listen. If the kids are being quite I enjoy the quiet. If they're being noisy I enjoy that too.
I guess I didn't realize how much I enjoyed the peace of those tasks. The dull stuff must align completely with my values.
