Anyone live around Virginia Beach?

Headed down there soon for a much needed, long awaited vacation. Going with friends who go every year-plan to hit the dolphin cruise and the aquarium, boardwalk. Renting house with them directly on the beach. Anyone local have any suggestions for cheaper family fun in the area? Will be skipping Busch Gardens- too expensive, kids are to o young to justify spending that much $ for something only 1 -might- remember down the line. Any local insight? Thanks in advance!

I live in Fl now but grew up in Va Beach. Definitely hit the Virginia Marine Science Museum... it was my favorite! If they like water parks Ocean breeze is fun. There is a year round Christmas store at the Ocean Front called "The Christmas Attic" that is neat.

Honestly the cheapest thing is the beach (free!). I would pick up buckets etc for sand castle building, boogie boards for the older ones are awesome fun, and a lot of times there are free concerts at the boardwalk. I know there is a stage at 17th street (or at least there was).

If you have a car there there is a children's museum in Portsmouth and the Chrylser museum and Nauticus in Norfolk are all good.
