What a horrible thing to happen. I feel so badly for the families.

Saw this story a few days ago on another forum.

Suffice it to say that while I feel terrible for their loss, I also feel absolute outrage that a group of people with *NO* swimmers in it would go picnicking near open flowing water and ALLOW their non-swimming children to get anywhere near it!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

The school took our safety seriously.
What a great idea! We used the pool during P.E. in high school but it was mostly to play water polo or just as a "free day." I think any high school with a pool should do exactly what yours did. Thinking back, there were so many kids I went to school with that couldn't swim. It would have been so easy to make that a part of the P.E. classes.

I learned to swim at our local park (red cross, free lessons) and many years later I enrolled my children in the very same program at the same park.

If any good can come from this tragedy it's the hope that parents make sure they and their children learn to swim. It's one of those skills that everyone should know, even adults. It's not too late, find a way, make it happen.

To me, a terrible example of parental neglect. To allow children to swim without one person having the ability to swim and supervise is just unspeakable.A lesson to be learned, in the most horrific example,a lifetime of regret.Very sad.
