Hi hi...
Hello everyone. I am Sio and I am officially a frugal newbie. I am determined to live my life in a more frugal way. My husband thinks this is just another phase that I try and then forget about, so this is really a personal challenge for me.
I am a pet stylist. I am a mother to one human boy (10 yrs) and three cats. I am also a vegetarian who happens to be passionate about animal rights.
So...that's me. Nice to meet you.

Welcome. It's a lot easier to persevere in frugality when you hang out here.

Aloha and welcome from Hawaii!!

Hi and welcome, from Chicago!!
One of the great debates around here is the definition of "frugal" - some people feel that to be really frugal, it's important to go right to the edge of being "tightwad"... others feel it is state of mind no matter what you actually spend to live ---as long as you are not building debt.
The truth, I think, is a more personal thing. I was born & raised in New England where being thrifty is practically an Olympic sport (unofficial New Hampshire motto: Live Free or Cheap). But being careful with my retail purchases didn't keep me out of a big debt hole! For me, being frugal was about doing whatever it took to live not only IN our means - but to reduce our debt and pump up our savings every single month, even if it's just by $10.
This site is great for all the many, many ways you can define your new frugality - tips for doing things in old fashioned and more wholesome (and cheaper) ways, notices on sales and big rebate drives or free days, strategies for doing more with less, encouragement for diets (both monetary and weight!!), homesteading mentors, healthy living tips, real estate - auto - and clothing purchase planning, and often? Just all around kind words for each other as "life happens".
One thing I've realized that is so special here is that you won't feel judged. This is an actual community - and you will get as good as you give, but with very little of the "pulling down" that you may find in the outside world...
Best of luck for your new approach to life!! Oh, and for me? Being frugal isn't a fad - it's little ways you decide to balance cost of life against quality with the idea of using up less. It's a path of self-sufficiency that provides a whole lot of freedom and security at the same time...

Hi and welcome from Florida! Easiest way to stay focused is to kind of make this your home away from home. Nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet. Jump in and start reading and posting. Best way to "stick with it".
Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.
