    Default Advice please........

I ordered dd's textbooks from half.com. Five of the six gave me the option to pay extra for expedited shipping and I did that as we were on a time crunch. I placed my order on the evening of Aug. 5th. Five of the six, including the one I didn't pay extra shipping for, shipped the next day and were here by Aug.10. But there is one book that I paid extra shipping on that hasn't even shipped yet!

The girl I bought it from emailed me on the 10th to tell me that she was moving and had just found the email from ebay telling her to ship the book. She found it in a box the night before and would ship it asap. Well dd started classes yesterday, without her book! So I emailed the girl and asked her if she had shipped it yet and that dd needed it NOW!

She emails me back thanking me for my patience and telling me she would mail it today with 2 day or overnight shipping whichever was cheaper. I PAID for the fast shipping already!

I can't report the book missing until the 20th but I am wondering if I should complain now to half.com or ebay about her not shipping it in a timely manner? Or wait two more days and see if I get it. It's been 12 days since I placed the order and I think it's crazy that it hasn't even been shipped yet.

Ebay can be a pain in the behind.. Chances are you will have to wait for the amount of time they allow,, even though they want you to right out, they won't do to much about it until a certaim time frame, you could always buy another one of she has not mailed this one yet. When u do recieve it return to her for a refund. Leave her not so good feeback.

~Contact the seller again and complain. You hold all the cards in this scenario because the seller dropped the ball. Tell the seller exactly what you want. If I was you I'd ask for the return of all shipping charges and a percentage discount for your inconvenience. If the seller doesn't agree or doesn't reply, you will be able to file a complaint with Half and get all your money back. The seller will have to provide proof that they shipped it and you received it in a timely manner. They won't be able to do it.
I sell on Half and sellers are required to ship within three days of an order.
Don't let the seller get away with excuses. Half has an easy to find and activate "Vacation" setting that should have been engaged prior to the move.~

The confirmation email from half.com says that arrival date is between 8/12 and 8/20 and I can't report it missing until after the 20th. Does that not mean that I have to give her until then to get it to me before I can do any complaining?

I would ask her to refund all shipping charges for the inconvenience particularly since you PAID extra to have it mailed fast and SHE dropped the ball big time.

I read through their policy for sellers and it says items must be shipped within 30 days. So I guess she has 30 days to actually ship it and then she is supposed to pay to have it get here fast once it's shipped. She did NOT email me yesterday to tell me she had mailed it as promised.

IF she does have 30 days to mail it then my complaining to her will do no good.

~Where did you see a 30 day policy? Here's a copy & paste from the seller policy:
"When Half.com sends the seller an order notification, the desired shipping method will be included in that notification, and sellers must ship their item within 3 business days of the order notification. If shipping method is expedited, sellers must upload tracking information within 3 business days of sale."
    "Mandatory tracking for expedited shipping

    1.

To improve trust, safety and user experience on the site, sellers who offer expedited shipping will need to enter tracking information into the Half.com website for all expedited orders within 3 business days of making a sale.

Please note: The policy change outlined above only impacts orders where the buyer has paid for expedited shipping. Sales with standard shipping will not be affected by this policy change.
    2.

Sellers can enter tracking information when they mark transactions as shipped via their My Account Sales page, through the PayPal shipping label service (where Delivery Confirmation is free on Priority Mail and discounted on other forms of U.S. Postal Service shipping), through the CompleteSale API, or through File Exchange.
    3.

If tracking is not uploaded within 3 business days, expedited shipping will be disabled on the seller's account and will not be available as a shipping option on the seller's current and future listings.
    4.

In order to re-enable expedited shipping, sellers must upload tracking for all outstanding expedited orders within 3 business days after the expedited shipping option was disabled; otherwise, expedited shipping will be permanently disabled on the seller's account until the seller contacts Half.com Customer Support to review and approve re-enabling expedited shipping."

I think 30 days is the rule for filing a missing item under the Buyer Protection policy. At this point it sounds like you will receive the item but the seller has clearly violated the seller trust policies of Half.

"Half.com's policy on Seller Non-Performance focuses on the contract between Seller and Buyer in any transaction, and the importance of buyer satisfaction resulting from fulfillment of that contract. Sellers are expected to perform in a manner that results in a consistently high level of buyer satisfaction. If a seller's interactions with the Half.com community create unacceptable levels of buyer dissatisfaction, that seller has violated the Seller Non-Performance policy."

If the seller cares at all about their future business through Half, they will compensate you for their error and your inconvenience. Save all emails between you and the seller!~

The policy is "must be shipped within 3 days" that provides tracking number to half.com. But they can put a label on a box and get a tracking number with the time frame.. But don't send the book out for 10 days later.

    General Shipping Policy

Sellers receive a set shipping reimbursement from Half.com for each listing.

If a buyer files a claim for some of the items on a multiple item order from the same seller, and at least one or more of the items was received, the buyer will receive the discounted shipping amount for their shipping reimbursement.

When Half.com sends the seller an order notification, the desired shipping method will be included in that notification, and sellers must ship their item within 3 business days of the order notification. If shipping method is expedited, sellers must upload tracking information within 3 business days of sale.

For both sellers' and buyers' protection when ordering expensive items, we recommend that sellers insure and track shipments. Half.com reserves the right to suspend the privileges of any member we feel may be acting in a fraudulent manner.

All items sold on Half.com by eBay must be shipped from within the 50 United States. Sellers must ship to all states with the exception of Alaska, Hawaii, APO/FPO addresses, and PO boxes. To change your shipping options, go to your Seller Shipping Options and click Change Restricted Areas.
    Holidays

Since sellers are dependent on the United States Postal Service (USPS) for the majority of shipping on our site, Half.com observes any holidays recognized by the USPS. For a list of these holidays visit USPS. Half.com doesn’t consider any of the holidays recognized by the USPS or weekends as part of the 72 hours required for a seller to ship their items.
Buyer Shipping Options and Cost - Books, Music, Movies, Games and Game Systems

All sellers listing in Half.com's Books, Music or Movies product categories must use, at a minimum, U.S. Postal Service Media Mail to ship orders. When listing in the Game and Game Systems categories, sellers are required to use a minimum of Ground shipping. Sellers in these product categories also have the option of offering expedited shipping as an upgrade.

In general, items shipped via Media Mail or ground shipping should arrive within 2-9 days from the time of shipping, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. However, some Media Mail shipments can take as long as 30 days to arrive. USPS doesn’t guarantee a specified delivery time for Media Mail and it may receive “deferred service.” Items shipped via Expedited Shipping (including USPS Priority, Fed Ex Home Delivery, UPS Ground, Airborne Express Ground Delivery) should arrive in 1-3 days. However, any form of expedited shipping may take as long as 10 days to arrive.

thank you everyone. Not sure where on the site I found the 30 day shipping thing LOL. She still hasn't sent me anything saying she mailed it so I guess I will email her again and copy and paste the policy and be mean. Thanks again!

Ok here is what my email to her says so far. Anything else I should or shouldn't say to her???

Hello again. I am writing in reference to my order. It's been 13 days since I placed my order and according to Half.com's seller policy I believe you are to ship items within three days of their notification to you. I have received no email this week telling me that you mailed it as promised.

"When Half.com sends the seller an order notification, the desired shipping method will be included in that notification, and sellers must ship their item within 3 business days of the order notification. If shipping method is expedited, sellers must upload tracking information within 3 business days of sale."

Of those 13 days you have had 11 days that the post office was open and my book could have been mailed. I ordered five other books at the same time and all five, including one that I did NOT pay expedited shipping on arrived by Aug. 10th.

My daughter has now started her college classes without this book. I want the book shipped immediately and I am requesting that you refund me the the entire amount that I paid to you in shipping as you did not follow policy and mail it in a timely manner. I also plan to notify half.com of this problem.

Yep, should get the point across...

Best of luck to you in this matter!

PS, if it were me, I would make her add a little more in on the deal...she's the one who breached the contract/agreement.

I don't know the "tradition" with half.com but I may cc: it to the powers that be if possible.
