No-good, Terrible, Very-bad, Horrible Day!
Yeah, the title says it all.
Last year at this time we were still doing clean up after a tornado ripped through our property. Then we moved to another state and experienced the most snow I had ever seen in one place: bad winter! And now today.........
We have been having flooding all summer. The ground is saturated and the river is still in flood stage. But this afternoon we had about 7 inches of rain in less than an hour. I saw a man hole cover fly up in the air with a gyser force under it. The street storm drains were fountains, shooting up 4 feet into the air. The down town area was under 2 foot of water. The major highways were closed and just north of us the high way was under 5 ft. of water that stretched out for 500 ft. Sounds awful, huh?
I was driving home in it and had to detour. The street I went up had water covering the street, the yards, and it was going in the front doors of homes. When I got home, I discovered that we had flooding in our basement. The sewers had backed up and gushed that black yucky water into our nice finished basement. A friend came over with 2 shop vacs, and we vacc'd and swept as much as possible. Have 2 de-humidifiers going now and 5 fans. Made me sick to see stuff we stored and used down there ruined: freezer, washer, dryer, computer, water heater, irreplaceable photos, books, files and records, school supplies. My pantry had water in it......... Clothing and linens are full of black water.
We called insurance, and they told us to go ahead and get a clean up company. So we called the local company and he said he'd put us on the list. So we just decided to do as much tonight as we could.
We are blessed, actually, that we didn't get as much as some other got. During the worst of the summer floods, some people around here had water not only in basements, but up to the top of their first floor. And we are blessed to have a friend come over to help. Hubby was out helping some others, also, who were elderly and couldn't rescue some of their items.
But I still think it was a no-good, terrible, very-bad, horrible day.....Spiritual:

You're so right - the title does say it all. What a nasty mess to teturn home to - although it might have been worse, I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this - enough already.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I can't remember where you moved to but I know Tennessee and surrounding areas were in the news again for flooding.
Sounds like you have flood insurance. When Nashville got the flood a few months ago, where my oldest is, they couldn't get flood ins cause they weren't in a flood zone. She tried when she bought the house. BUT when the flood happened these people were flooded, some beyond salvageing.
Least everyone seems to be working together and that helps.
Do you think you will stay there or put it back up for sale later? Is there anything you can do to help against maybe ( hopefully won't be one ) the next time?
I so feel for you and your neighbors.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Sorry to hear that FHG. Our suburb had the same problem when Ames had all that horrible flooding. We were very blessed to not have many troubles.
Is there anything I can do to help? I am relatively close to you, I think.McD

Ruderring and Mrs. McDowell, Thanks for thinking of us in our part of Iowa. I'm just a weather magnet...... Appreciate your offer of help, but I think we'll work it out. Maybe next time? Oh how I hope there is no next time.
