    Default Cruel reality

My dd who will be a freshman at college had to buy her school books tonight. Bwahaha! She told me how expensive they were, how long it took her to get that money, how she didn't buy fun stuff so she could buy books. Dh and I got out the violin and played her a sad song to welcome her to adulthood.

And when she goes to sell them at the end of the semester she will get pennies on the dollar back for them, if they take them at all.

Actually make sure she knows about half.com. Make sure she's not getting taken by the bookstore. Amazon.com sell discounted books too. And when she resells them, make sure she puts up fliers and talks to kids she knows coming in.

I did this when I went to uni - ALWAYS consult your syllabus issued by the prof to make sure you have the correct edition/version of the required text.

I bought my used text from someone who had taken the course the previous semester.....the prof taught the course but based on the newest version of the text and focused a lot on the revisions I had to borrow a friends text to photocopy the missing parts - what a pain! Between the used text and copying costs - I barely broke even.

My dd learned that you can rent them it is a lot cheaper and since we told her that her education is her job we support her as long as she stays home she is dying to get married and this is our way to get them to hold off soon she will have her associates. Yeee haw. Check into this it is soo much better. She can do it thru ebates and make a little money back I hope I can say that here.

georgia-we actually found renting thru Chegg.com to be more than buying thru half.com much of the time. Plus then we have something to sell. I was also paranoid some fool would damage it and we would have to buy it also. Where did she rent from?

This is what I did however when you get a last minute notice that you have gotten into a course you wanted that was originally full - you do what you gotta do

I don't think the Canadian market is as plentiful as the US with regards to the texts - but don't quote me on that!

    Sell back textbooks? Heresy!

How do you quickly reference something for an idea you have on the can at home when you're now a professional in your field if you don't maintain your little reference library?
