    Default Sales - dried beans

I see that one of our grocery stores is having dried beans on sale again. It doesn't happen too often it seems. But the only kind EVER on sale is pinto.

Pinto beans are ok, but not my favorites, and I admit it doesn't break the bank to pay regular price for the other kinds, but this seems like a clear of case of bean discrimination to me and somethin' oughta be done about it. There oughta be an organization! LOL

Is is just our benighted part of the country? Do others of you in more enlightened bean friendly areas get other kinds on sale?

In my area, Pinto beans are cheaper as well...they also go on sale frequently while most others don't...except around the end of the year, then black eyed peas are on a super sale...

Oh, yeah. I forget the black eyes peas. But they are REAL beans, ya know!

Sigh. I guess I'll just have to keep paying top dollar for limas for dark red kidneys.

I love black beans....but they sell for .96 a pound(dried). We are better off buying the canned version for .59 for 15 oz.

2 cups (1 pound) dry beans = 6 cups cooked beans,
    from this page .

I believe you are farther ahead buying the dry beans instead.

Dry beans for .96 you get 6 cups cooked = 16 cents per cup.
    A can at .59 divide by 15 oz = .04 per ounce X 8 oz= .31 cup

In the past, I have took dried beans and canned them myself. I would again, if I could get my husband to eat more of them. And if I could, I would have him help me put more beans in our garden. As it is, I ended up sharing with the chickens this year. They appreciate a good bean

Pintos are cheaper here but they are a main ingredient around here. Other beans are quite affordable and I rarely see any on sale.

Around here, dry beans seldom come on sale at all. They are usually cheaper with the Hispanic foods, but still what I call pricey. My favorite bean is the baby lima,DH likes navy beans.
