    Unhappy Wisdom teeth

I have a question? I'm 42 and i think i have a wisdom tooth coming in on the right bottom side. I have a very tiny mouth and had many teeth pulled when i was a teen around 17 and had braces. I had to have my back molars pulled because of crowding and they were break my side teeth. So plenty of room to break through. But today that area way back there is swollen i can run my finger and feel a sharp pc on the inside part of the gum. My jaw is a little swollen.
Last week i went to the doctor for a sinus infection, put on zpack.Just finished it on Tuesday.Sinus feels fine. I call the dentist and explained what i thought might be a wisdom tooth and they told me it was unlikely because of my age.Is there a certain time when wisdom teeth won't come in?Most people i know that have had them removed are between 17 and 30. Just wondering I can't get into the dentist for 2 weeks. Because of the back to school dentist appt.

Sorry to hear you're having pain I had all 4 taken out at the same time when I was in my early teens.

Can you put ice on your jaw in the meantime?

wow 42 & wisdom teeth?? ouch, you poor girl. I suffered for 5 yrs w/mine before I finally had them pulled. & ironically, they only decided to give me trouble when I was pregnant...so after baby #4 ,I'd had enough.lol. I would strongly recommend that you get them out.
On another note...sinuses can truly fool you into thinking that you have dental problems...I had thought that I was having problems w/ my sinuses..had headaches/jawpain,etc....come to find out, I actually had an abcessed molar that I had to have pulled.ggrr. hugs for you.

I had problems with mine in my early 20s but left them in - now I'm 30 and they have sort of "settled in" - haven't had a peep out of them in 8 years or so. I would not be in the least surprised if they start to give me problems "at some future time." Why not in my early 40s? It could happen... I went to the dentist earlier this week and he said "at some point one of them needs to come out" but that leaves another 3 that still aren't bothering anybody BUT according to the x-rays, they're pointing in the wrong direction and supposedly "should" come out "at some point".

So I guess my point is, if I still have 3 "healthy" but screwy wisdom teeth at 30, I definitely believe that at 42 you are not "too old" to have problems.

I am 55 and I still have all my wisdom teeth. None of them have broken through. From time to time, one of them (lower left) moves and my jaw gets sore, the area swells, is tender, etc.

Dentists have wanted to pull them since I was a teen. I am terrified of doctors and dentists. I recently completed several root canals, crowns, and fillings. The wisdom teeth are staying!

No way to tell w/o out xrays but could it be a leftover chip from the molar removal. Sometimes a bit of root gets left and needs time to work its way through. Teeth and sinus go together. The teeth coould be irritating the sinus.

I was in my mid 30's when I had three wisdom teeth pulled. They were impacted. And I would say my mouth is also small. The doctors always tell me this when they have to clean, drill, and pull a tooth way in the back.

I would set up an appointment as soon as possible with the dentist. That way you will know for sure what is going on. At the drugstore I have seen ointment you can put on your gums to help with pain.

I had the 2 on the leftside removed when I was 25 and they stuck out high enough to be pulled. The 2 on the right are only just coming through, the bottom one did not really show (although I could feel the shape underneath the gum) until this spring. And I'm 38! It hurt badly, but I used my baby dd's homeopathic teething meds and that worked. In Dutch it's called Chamodent.

Are you sure that your wisdom teeth are actually coming in and its not an infection? I say that because thats what happend to me.. I hadn't known that my wisdome teeth had fully come in.. I thought they were cutting in at 27. My mouth was swollen, gums sore to the touch, I couldnt eat on the side of my mouth, and hurt to bite down. When I went to the dentist and inquired about my wisdome teeth cutting in.. they replied.. Sorry they are in.. and what you are feeling is an infection.

I didnt realize it..since my teeth are petite and mouth (jaws) are somewhat small. They recommended for me to have all four taken out.. and that I did.

I would def. try to get in and have the dentist check out your teeth.

Hope everything works out for you

I had 3 of mine removed between the ages of 23 and 26. I am still hanging onto 1 of them. I think it is totally possible for it to happen at any age of adulthood. As someone else mentioned, I think x-rays are the best way to show if you are having problems.

Perhaps your dentist could just get to in to do x-rays to see if an appointment is warranted.

My wisdom teeth are all with me, all 4 are usable and never have bothered me. DH and both kids had theirs removed in their teens.

I can feel something poking through but has not broke the surface yet. Kinda feels it's coming in side ways.
