Smile do you have to yell at your family STOP dont throw that out , too ?

my dh was ready to throw out our living room table lamp because the switch was not working properly for a while and it finally just died.

    ME : STOOPPPPP !!!!!

this of course was a lamp that was a 3 pc set that sold for over 200$ over 10 years ago that i got for 75% off - so the living room floor lamp and a smaller lamp in dining room we use as a night light all match . .it looked fine just had a messed up switch.

took apart the switch area - sent dh to town hardware store with old piece to make sure he got right one - and 3.99 and 5 min later ....wala lamp works .

dh : " didnt know it would be that easy"

    UGH !!!!!

    LOL! That IS a problem!

I can't say I have that problem.....my DH comes from a Mom who never threw anything away....ever. So he would never! He'd put the lamp in the corner, till I put it in the attic or threw it out myself. It is VERY hard for me to declutter!

It went farther than lamps or furniture with DH, they left empty containers in the fridge and cupboards at his house, so his Mom wouldn't say 'who took the last of the......' They'd leave one Tbsp. of ice cream to avoid that. LOL!

H!--and kudos to you for fixing the lamp! I'm not that handy--it would be my dh fixing it.

My hubby is Mr. "try to fix it" and I love that about him. There are SO many things that he has fixed for little to nothing.

No not I or dh has that ability to fix anything although dh did fix the light fixture in the bathroom after talking to our neighbor about it. He has the ability when it comes down to it and saving money. Wish he would do it more often though!

odd thing is that dh thinks that if you dont have a genetic inclination towards such stuff you cant do it - i have a way of seeing how things will work out ( painting decor- repair etc ) when i start i think i inherited from my late dad - -

when we were first married my mom bought him a how to fix anything readers digest book after we had a fight about him wanting to call a plumber for a leaky faucet -she stayed and helped him too - ( i get impatient and take things over lol )

when we were moving into our first apt i went out for 6 hours and came home to find the poor man any 2 steps further then ai left him into putting together a veru basic microwave cart

i finished it without directions LOL

but he has slowly got a bit better over the past 23 years i will give him that !!

DH -- I never have to say that to him; like many of you, I married a Fixit.

The kids, though. SIGH. Who would throw out a half-sliced chicken breast on the cutting board when she's cleaning up dinner? And one time, I cut up a salad for me to eat later when I was packing DH's lunch. DD was sent to clear up the counters, and my salad went right in the trash.

    Sigh.

My husband never does that, he'll try to fix something first.. Recently we had an old floor fan go ca-put, he tried to fix it, but not luck, so in the trash it went..

I am the one that is more willing to throw away.. Somethings make me nervous even after being fix, so instead of him fixing it, I will throw it away..

If it's broken it goes to the garage and will hide there until someone falls over it. He won't throw anything away.

Nope. I'll usually try to fix something prior to throwing it away. If I can't fix it, I'll take it apart and salvage the usable parts for a future project. My wife knows that, and she doesn't like throwing things away either.

Were fixers. Just fixed the dryer again, the computer (new power supply),the washer is next-needs a new timer.

Were also part scavengers. DD is getting old alarm clocks from Grampa to make steam punk jewelry. DS makes plant hangers and hooks out of railroad ties,I constantly G. sale to upgrade.
Yesterday I salvaged a great HEAVY stool from dads' junk for the work room for DS.

I do frequently put FREE signs up when we clean the garage or take metal out for the pickers.

    Good thread.

I'm the one that's likely to throw it away, unless I LOVE it. The reason being is that if it's not fixed right away it will never get fixed and I hate clutter.
