Soon to be a Social Security Family!
My husband applied this last week for Social Security. Now he's starting to sound seriously old. (by the way, read my blog about this experience: glorybug.wordpress.com).
Anyway, just wondering if any of you have words of advice about using SS, living on/with SS, etc. For what it's worth, it's not our only source of retirement funds, thank goodness. It certainly is far less than we anticipated!!Spiritual:

I haven't read your blog yet. But I did want to say collect as much as you can I certainly don't expect to get any. I would rather someone I "know" get it.lol Same thing I tell mom.

My husband also receives SS. JUst remember it is a mandatory 6 month wait before you can get any money from Social security. I dont know if that applies to SSI or not. Good luck and keep us posted!

We both get SS, plus small pensions. My SS goes for groceries, sundries, vet bills, entertainment, etc. His goes for the major things - taxes, car repairs, house improvements, monthly bills, etc. My small pension is saved for things I want - trips, conventions, clothes. His pension - he has 2, 1 is "beer money" - goes for stuff he wants.

From what I've read recently, you should keep a separate bank account for SS. JUST IN CASE you ever become "garnished" or your assets seized. Your SS is exempt and that is the EASIEST way to prove the source of the income.

Glad you all liked the blog! It's not the usual....
Thanks for some of the tidbits about SS. I didn't know about the 6 month wait, not about the garnishment part. Thanks!Spiritual:
