The Jerks on Craigs List- GGGrrr
I posted on CL that I was looking for Halloween costumes for my youngest 4 houseapes in the wanted category. a few hours later, some jerk sent me a very offensive email that staed: " Why don't you do what the rest of us do - get a job and buy the costumes yourself, you loser!"
I was very shocked to read that & responded...
Hi Chris,
Apparently, your mother was very negligent in raising you properly...she managed to forget to teach you a little thing what we civilized human beings call MANNERS. When I had posted, I had every intention of paying for the costumes. In today's society, dignity and self-respect still exist....and it is obvious that you do not possess either quality.
Anyway, this jerk made my blood boil. What if he had written that ugly email to a mother who was just trying to do something nice for her children and actually couldn't afford to buy Halloween costumes??? Craigs List has become a cesspool

Good for you for replying. Most jerks don't think they'll get a response back thus them hiding behind their computers. One day he'll be posting for something and someone else will get him back. Karma is wonderful.
Sorry he happened to you.

Mahalo for taking the time to set him straight - as you said - obviously his parents didn't spend quality time educating him. CL might /should want to be aware of him also.

I hate he was an A$$ to you, but I got to wonder what his motivation was? I mean what did he think he would accomplish? Let's say he was right and you were a worthless Ma, does he really think a note from some stranger would change that?
I got to think his plan was to be a jerk to a good frugal parent.

Get ready for all the spam...you're about to win the British lottery, and every prince and princess in Africa is about to need your help holding onto their 'funds'. Sadly, you are right, CL has become a 'cesspool'.

IMO the response on Craigslist is only a reflection of what society has become -- lack of manners, abusing freedoms (of speech in this case), self entitlement and so on.
I've mentioned this before but when my boys were growing their hair out for Locks-of-Love, they were stopped many times, yes MANY times, in respectable public places and told that they were **** for having long hair. Now who stops a 9, 7 and 6 y/o to tell them that?? I then had to explain to them what a **** was and how we don't use that word. Grrrr.
Sadly, Craigslist and other internet sites give many ugly people an anonymous identity to hide behind.
I do think the email you received needs to be forwarded to the powers that be at Craigslist. I don't know that they can do much but maybe some harassment/stalking law might hit it.

CL doesn't do anything because it can't do anything.
When you post a listing on CL, whether you use a your own email or a CL email (which forwards to you), the email is simply relayed to you via a standard email relay process with possibly an annonymizer in the middle (when you use a CL email, YOU are annonymized).
The only useful response to emails like this is to delete them and then block the sender. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

CL is just the outlet that the AH's use to harass. And if they weren't doing it on CL it would be Facebook or one of the other sites.
I got my first nasty response to something about a week ago. I just deleted it. Ours seems to get worse during the summer. I wonder if it isn't 'bored kids' doing the writing. I feel the worst thing you can do is respond..........that is acknowledgement and I refuse to give them that.........besides I don't want them it have my email address.

I too have had people email me about stuff that I posted that I wanted and had full intention of paying. Last year I was looking for video games and posted the prices I was willing to pay and I got several emails telling me to offer more because I was stupid to think people would sell so cheaply. I too email people back as you did and put them in their place in a civilized manner. I'm sorry you had a rude person email you.

I was just speaking to someone today saying I did not use craigslist since you never know what type of idiot you might be dealing with.
Sorry to hear you had this experience. But you really handled it well. Whoever this person is really doesn't not have a clue. And yes, karma will find him eventually.

I do use Craigslist and everyone there has been OK.
We got our purrrrrfect kittens from Craigslist. We got rid of an old mattress to someone who had been sleeping on the floor for some time and was thrilled. The woman and her mother who we gave the moving boxes to were nearly in tears they were so excited (had been looking all over town).
Remember -- these people on Craigslist are the same people who go to your grocery and your mall or your thrift store. They could even be on here.

This is one thing I do not love about the internet. People say and do things they would never do to your face or in their "real life" because they have a keyboard to hide behind.

Have never, and would never use Craigs List.....
I've been on it and saw how unsecured it seems, so never used it, then I find out a couple in another state advertised something on it and was robbed when the people came to their house and not to mention that guy that killed a female or two that had posted a ad on it..Mom of 4

Wife of 1
