Can you recommend a good GPS system?
Plan to get hubby a GPS for Xmas this year...have NO idea which kind to get him. We liked the Garmin a friend lent us once......anyone have any 1 year old or less they love/hate? What should I look for when purchasing one? Don't know if I'll buy a 'new' older model off eBay or wait for the pre-Xmas deals. Thanks from the electronically challenged!

There is really no need to get the "latest and greatest" GPS system. No matter what model you get, you will need to periodically update the maps to account for new/changed roads.
Garmin is an excellent brand, and for $200 you can get a lifetime update subscription which over time is far cheaper than the 1 shot updates. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I too have to sing the praises of a Garmin. I forget which one we have but we got it about 3 years ago. It has only let us down once because we didn't have the maps updated. But now that we have them updated it has saved us plenty of time searching for directions and even led us on some awesome adventures. Once in a while we randomly look up things in the search feature and find new stores/places to eat that we never knew existed.
Edit : Ours is a Street Pilot. I don't know which number though.Chele

My sis and DF have tomtom's......two of my friends use Garmin. I find the voice and annunciation on the Garmin to be a bit odd and harder to understand vs tomtom. But thats just me and if I played around more with the Garmin models, I prob would get used to it.
No huge complaints about either. Both models tried to have me 4x4 over a huge garden and drive on a bike/pedestrian path. Wasn't gonna happen in either case and both times...the 'lady' was always 'recalculating'.2012: The Year Of The Purge!
