Received a partial scholarship
I just found out today I received a partial scholarship to attend a class in NYC.
Am really excited since I haven't worked in clay in a long while and have been wanting to get back into it. Unfortunately I need to come up with the rest of the fee so I figured it out and will be able to pay every off by October 2. Plus the train and bus fare to get there. I was hoping for a full scholarship.
Luckily I will be able to use what I have in the pantry and will be eating up what is in the freezer and still be able to save a little.
All the stockpiling and knowing how to cut back really does payoff. So glad I decided to wait to see if I got in the class instead of buying miscellaneous stuff I thought I would need.
I am hoping I can make a couple of items to sell to help cover the cost for the next session.

How exciting shoiji! I've always wanted to work with clay. In fact I was just thinking about it last night.
So glad you know how to be frugal so your dream can be a reality. I'll be praying you sell a few pieces to help with the cost.~~~

Thanks Polly. I will need to hopefully come up with some really good pieces quickly since I will have an opportunity to sell some pieces in December. So I need to come up with something that people would want to buy versus what I would really want to make.

shoiji, What kinds of pieces do you think would sell? Is it like a church craft sale?

Polly, the place that I am attending has a sale open to anyone currently taking a class there. As far as what would sell would mostly be utilitarian pieces. In most cases the most unique in style but not outlandish seems to sell well. Personally I would rather just concentrate on small organic sculptures which would have more of a limited audience.
I really doubt I would make a large amount of money to cover the cost of a class but as we know on FV every little bit helps.

I have a cousin who is an artist. She works in several mediums, clay being one of them. All her clay sculptures are organic in nature and are just incredible. But I do see how it could have a limited audience.
There's something so primal about about digging your hands into clay and creating something from inside of you to a tangible form. I can see why you choose this type of creativity.
And yes, every little bit adds up. I'll be praying for lots of interest in your pieces.~~~

Woohoo! Good for you! I'm envious.
Been trying for scholarships and have not been successful yet. I took a ceramics class this summer so I understand the addiction.
Good luck in class!

Thanks everyone. I used to teach ceramics. One thing exciting about taking the class is that I will not be as drained from working and taking classes. Will hopefully have more energy to just concentrate on working in clay.
